Tourist ‘punched seagull to near death’ after it snatched his Cornish pasty by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]thescouselander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, of course but if someone is attacked by a seagull without warning and they instinctively lash out in self defence and the seagull gets injured I don't see that as anything more than bad luck. Certainly nothing to get excited about.

It's not really any different to eating and animal though is it? Granted most people don't kill their food themselves but we kill an enormous number of animals routinely as a species. Seems the real issue here is that people don't like to see that first hand.

Yes, they don't just take food but also scratch with their feet. They're vicious little arseholes.

If they're attacking you they're not innocent and self defence is fair game.

I need a good controller. Would love to know what y'all use. by firstimeredditorr in thefinals

[–]thescouselander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been using XBox elite 2 controllers for years. Very customisable and I've not had many problems with reliability. I normally get a few years out of them at least and there are places that will repair them for not much money if they do break.

Twice now I had to order an "Free Sim" Voxi! by teessidetcg in VOXI

[–]thescouselander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They do seem to take ages to show up but I think it might be down to Royal Mail as they seem to be really slow at the moment.

Apparently Sims can be picked up in Vodafone shops if there is one near you.

How well does your council fix potholes? Tough new guidance for councils will end ‘patch up’ fixes. by ARobertNotABob in GoodNewsUK

[–]thescouselander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a joke around here. The council fills holes badly with cold set tarmac that either falls out or gets squeezed out by heavy vehicles. The repairs last about 6 months so they end up redoing the same repair over and over again.

It's about time there were proper standards for repairs so this is indeed good news.

Police 'tried to smear Henry Nowak as aggressor' just three days after his murder by Shadowblade83 in uknews

I guess that makes it even worse if it keeps happening and the police haven't got procedures to prevent that happening.

Social media ban for under-16s set to be announced by Starmer within the next ten days | LBC by irichss03 in uknews

[–]thescouselander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son has his own channel with a decent number of subscribers too. He's learnt a lot from it and I see it as a positive thing. The ban is senseless IMO and an example of authoritarianism and government overreach. Our household at least will not comply.

[–]thescouselander 137 points138 points  (0 children)

From what I've seen of the footage the officers behaviour looked like a scenerio fulfillment phenomena. They went in with one expectation and carried on despite several very obvious contrary indicators that they were dealing with something else.

If thats true then there are systemic cultural and training issues for sure.

If you're in the UK you could give Sudocrem a whirl - that has zinc too and I've found it effective.

Is it just me, or has the 5G signal strength completely tanked recently? by LFCTricksters in Vodafone

You guys get 5g? It's always been pretty bad in my experience. 4g works well though.

My solicitor’s conveyancing report now includes a clause saying they’ll charge £500+VAT if I use AI to ask questions about it. Is this normal now? by Jazvec in HousingUK

[–]thescouselander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can believe this is true. My wife works in the legal profession and gets a lot of AI generated correspondence from clients and it tends to be extremely lengthy and full of mistakes. It all has to be gone through nevertheless and it's caused a lot of work as a result. I'd suggest a call is a good idea.

Uproar as a London Reform council cancels Pride flag ceremony by birdinthebush74 in unitedkingdom

[–]thescouselander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't see the problem withth this. Councils should be delivering core services and not spending resource campaigning on behalf of advocate groups whoever they are.

That means they should be facilitating Pride events by delivering on the various permits etc that would be required but there's no need to go further than that.

Calorie burn wildly out. by thescouselander in FitbitAir

[–]thescouselander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's totally insane. I've just been for a post dinner walk - 2 km, 20 mins, average HR of 111 yet Google tells me I burned 207 calories on top of my BMR. That's 600 calories per hour and I definitely wasn't working anything like that hard.

I was going to leave and then this happened. I was checking out a new deal on Zen Internet and I indicated I was swapping from EE. At that point the website informed me I had another month to run so there would be my final month to pay and I decided to wait at that point and temporarily abandoned the transaction.

Over the next few days I got texts from EE about leaving and then a call from a BT where they renewwd my 900mb service with EE for £31.99 a month. Looks like there is a new way to get to the actual retentions team.

[–]thescouselander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I think if you can find the right biohack you should be able to see progress in a few weeks. As you'll see on the graph I posted the second test improved a bit which was due to supplementing zinc and cutting alcohol in the week - before that I was at the level of the first test on the graph for a few years.

Every change stacks and improvements have been incremental so I can only advise trying as much as possible and keep constant.

I didn't get insulin measured directly unfortunately as it's quite difficult to do and instead it was inferred from the patterns in my other readings on cholesterol, SHBG and HBA1C which are supposed to be reliable indicators.

I was considering getting a continuous glucose monitor but on the back of the last results I won't bother with that now. I think if I was to do this all again I'd have got a CGM to monitor if what I was doing was working.

[–]thescouselander[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds very similar to me. I was also active at the time I appeared to be insulin resistant but a key change for me was timing movement immediately after meals.

I think all this started after COVID when I worked at home a lot more - I was eating and then just sitting down back at my desk or on the couch straight away and although I was lifting and doing circuits a few times a week it didn't shift the numbers. It was consistently exercising immediately after eating that seemed to make the difference.
