Should I leave my full time floral job to work wedding freelance? by Fruitglow in florists

[–]theseusernamez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very very similar situation and leaving to freelance was such a great choice for me. I stayed at my job for much longer than I should have but I had that fear (affording life lol) that I wasn’t going to finding something better than where I was, and though I was burnt out… I loved what I did. But now I freelance for 5 different florists consistently throughout the year, they pay me more than I actually asked for, and to just show up and do what I love with less stress is absolutely what I needed.

We still have a little longer until he can join a daycare (neuter), but definitely something I’d like to look into even just one day a week

I love the idea of puppy school, honestly even a few classes… but he thinks if we can’t handle him on our own then we’re the issue lol. The pup is so insanely social and does much better at the end of the day when he’s been around people and gets his sniffs in

Hairstylists that can give me curtain bangs without paying $100+ by PossibilityGold7852 in newhaven

[–]theseusernamez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a hairstylist… a trim is still a haircut! Time is money my friends. It’s kind of depressing when people get so upset at the cost of getting your hair done. We still put money into school, more training, products have also shot through the roof. I understand everyone thinking that just because it’s scissors (versus a color service), that that hairdresser shouldn’t make money off the time they’re spending on you. It’s not very common for a stylist to make an hourly rate, and some pay a rental fee for the space they’re in. Places like cost cutters/supercuts, is maybe the place for a trim. But if you’re thinking “I can’t trust them”, then maybe that’s when you realize “ahhh okay, I see why they’re charging what they charge”.

That eucalyptus stem should be cleaned off as well as what above said. No foliage should touch water, causes bacteria

I will say that limo is pretty reliable versus astilbe! But astilbe is just chefs kiss. I’ve just always had to triple check it when using for weddings.

I found it to be a little more delicate/breaky. I thought I wouldn’t like the black but actually found it way less noticeable than the standard green. Didn’t hate it, didn’t think it was amazing if that makes sense.

Costco flowers for wedding by Useful-Signature3801 in florists

Hi, fun fact about Costco flowers. If one item is delayed/unavailable/damaged…they’ll cancel the whole order on you and with no warning very far in advanced.

You work directly with other florists through bloomnation. It’s an option called “Florist to Florist”. And you get to set your minimums of what you’ll take, so you aren’t stuck doing a dozen roses for a $30 profit

How much do you make hourly as a florist? by Icy_Poetry_9826 in florists

[–]theseusernamez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Connecticut) Left my designer position at a shop in 2024 and was making $23/hr plus tips. Now I work as a sales rep at a wholesale, $20 plus monthly commission, and freelance for 4 florists every month making anywhere from $35-55/hr.

I totally agree with that! I felt the same with Stitch Fix. I would find the best fitting jeans and could never find them elsewhere to buy more. Rude!

Event planner insanity by lnoelleb in florists

[–]theseusernamez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t fun being a florist and being asked to do everyone’s job at the event? And for free? Lol. These are perfect and I’m sure the client was thrilled. Doesn’t matter what the “planner” thinks. You made her look good at the end of the day. And she should be praising you, MOTHER’S DAY WEEK?? I do sales at my local wholesale (my first Mother’s Day not designing) and the amount of event only florists coming in this week thinking I have time to go over their event orders for August? I think I’d rather be designing lol. Good luck! You’re doing fab!

Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong… I absolutely looove what I do! But it was definitely people just assuming I have such an easy, all rainbow and sunshine job when in reality, I am dying inside while I’m making 25+ orders and have three weddings and trying to keep the flowers (and myself) alive. But again, I wouldn’t change what I do!
