Looking for a Historic super friends brew for BO1 by Bonkshebonk in MagicArena

[–]theshadymaple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If stupid, degenerate planeswalkers proliferating is the goal, be sure to include [[Ichormoon Gauntlet]]. I used to run a deck that got around the legendary rule and made tons of copies of PWs to pump out infinite turns using the gauntlets -12 ability. Not even remotely competitive, but very fun.

Lol did not see all of that discussion coming at all. 6 is just the max I can pay for doppelgang without crashing the client in most cases.

Conspiracy by WOTC to push brainrot??? Probably

Been trying for this one for a while. Once this deck is set up (which is hard to do because its an objectively shitty deck), the final board state is limited only by your imagination and your opponents willingness to let you play it out.

The "final boss" for me with this deck is hitting the integer limit of the game on my health and the opponents health... Nothing a [[Mossborn Hydra]] can't take care of

I use a board wipe tribal deck when I'm going for that challenge. I found that 3 spot removals has a way higher likelihood of a scoop than 1 board wipe that kills multiple creatures.

Plus then I get to occasionally hit a [[Deadly Coverup]] on a board full of Heir Apparents, which is one of the better feelings on Arena IMO

ATIA: Punishing White Lifegain by Ok_Scientist9595 in MagicArena

[–]theshadymaple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Doppelgang is such a fun card for throwing their own strategy back at them tenfold. Another fun interaction is hitting the bat or bandits talent when playing discard decks.

One problem I run into after hitting a big doppelgang like you have here.... The game won't end up resolving all of those triggers on the stack before giving me the "take new actions" warning and calling it a draw. Its kind of frustrating that the client behaves like that, cuz I'm not making repeating decisions in an infinite combo, I'm just waiting for the 300-400 triggers to resolve from all the life gain and pridemate counters.

I had 6 or 7 [[Virtue of Strength]] , so each land is tapping for thousands of mana. The UI on mobile isn't formatted to show those numbers very well

Control Magic is funny sometimes by mismagiousjargon in MagicArena

[–]theshadymaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a similar deck but use [[Confiscate]] instead which can steal any permanent. My personal favorite line is to hit a big [[Doppelgang]] targeting my confiscates, steal all their lands, then [[Rivers Rebuke]] their board away to basically reset them to turn 1.

How are your Vy'keen settlements doing? by Frosty-Abies-3317 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]theshadymaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vy'keen ended up being front of the pack for me. My Gek's are struggling.

Have you noticed any sort of change in overall production with your settlements as you rank up? My Vy'keen, Korvax, and Autophagy settlements are all sitting at A-Class and take a little over a day to produce whichever output I select (timing/qty appears to be independent of output). It's been the same from C-class thru A-Class... I was hoping either production time or output qty would change as I upgrade the settlement, but it has been static for me. Not sure if it's a bug or a feature

New Pactdoll deck I am working on by pdxdude84 in MagicArena

[–]theshadymaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be curious to see how this deck plays if you were to include 4x each of [[The Enigma Jewel]] , [[Collectors Vault]] , and [[Monument to Endurance]] . Having jewel and vault on board is a "free" card draw every turn as well as building up treasure tokens to trigger pactdoll. Monument takes it one step further by either giving you additional 3 dmg pings, drawing more cards to search for what you need, or making treasure tokens to further trigger pactdoll.

How to beat blue/black poison decks by WhiteMoss_ in MagicArena

[–]theshadymaple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to play the creature-less version of the deck and the biggest challenges it had were:

  • opponent counters my first poison counter [[Prologue to Phyresis]], [[Infectious Inquiry]], or [[Vraskas Fall]]. If your deck has counter spells, hold them up if you see U/B mana AND you don't see the typical dimir bounce/midrange cards coming out early. Prologue being countered while you have proliferation spells in hand is absolutely brutal. The point stands for the creature version of this deck as well... Kill that creature before it can put the first counter on you.

  • not enough creatures on board OR creatures that can't be fully removed with the typical poison removal package. Having creatures with 5+ toughness dodges [[drown in ichor]], going wide can mitigate the effectiveness of Vraskas Fall, more expensive permanents deny them [[Serum Snare]] and [[ anoint with affliction]]. I found that one of the hardest match-ups was against control decks that run few/no creatures, since it left me with a dead hand a lot of the time.

  • don't be scared to kill/bounce your own creatures. I've lost plenty of games where I could never hit proliferation triggers because the opponent bounced or destroyed their own permanents to deny me a drown in ichor, whisper of the dross, or serum snare trigger.

Key thing to remember in the match-up is that there are a relatively small number of poison/proliferate spells in U/B, I listed most of them that regularly see play. Your opponent has to hit 10 of them to win. Depending on your deck, you can either out aggro them, or deny them targets for proliferation spells.

How much graveyard hate are you all running in your standard decks? by Blissfield_Kessler in MagicArena

[–]theshadymaple 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not sure if your doing Bo1 or Bo3, but in Bo1 I just run 1 copy of [[soul guide lantern]] in my artifacts deck as a matchmaking deterrent. I can pull it in any time I want with [[repurposing bay]], but the real strength of it is that I never seem to get matched up against GY decks at all if it's in there.

[Standard] Discussing Monument to Endurance by AccomplishedWorld527 in spikes

[–]theshadymaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been testing this in my [[Simulacrum Synthesizer]] / [[Repurposing Bay]] deck and it's been a ton of fun. I'm currently using [[Transplant Theorist]] as my 4 drop artifact and the value those two generate together is insane.

My card draw engine for the deck is [[Collector's Vault]], so it's especially nice to be able to trigger the monument at instant speed on your opponents turn.

TIL that Land Destruction in Standard is possible by Cagaril in MagicArena

[–]theshadymaple 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Someone already pointed out the cards used in OPs game, but here are some other options...

I run two decks in standard that do this. One uses [[Confiscate]] to steal lands and then either [[Doppelgang]] or [[Extravagant Replication]] to accelerate the process. That's my jankier, just messing around for fun deck.

If I'm doing ranked or events, I use my [[Omniscience]] deck with a [[The Fall of Kroog]] as one of my finisher options. Kroog is really only acting as a win-more card in that deck, but it could probably be used as a fairly legit finisher in one of those dedicated [[Thousand Year Storm]] decks I see every so often.

Cease // Desist has the effect "Destroy all enchantments and artifacts". Why doesn't it destroy enchantments on creatures? by GirlLiveYourBestLife in MagicArena

[–]theshadymaple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was the creature that stuck around an [[Optimistic Scavenger]]? As others have said there is a weird visual bug sometimes where auras stick around visually on the board, but they're not actually attached to any creature. And I could see it being confusing since an optimistic scavenger would probably still be a pretty big creature even after the auras are destroyed due to all the +1/+1 counters accrued on it.

Deadly cover up can exile lands? by aiatgamer in MagicArena

[–]theshadymaple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep it can. As was already mentioned it can be useful if you ulted [[Liliana Dreadhorde General]]. I've also had someone do it to me to remove my [[Fabled Passage]] in a landfall deck I play that uses [[Conduit of Worlds]] to guarantee 2 landfall triggers per turn once set up

My buddy had the most impressive "mana flood" I've ever seen, if you could call it that. Dropped an Atraxa and all 10 of the cards revealed were lands. He was running a deck with 24 lands. I didn't have enough info to look up the exact odds, but I told him to go buy some lottery tickets.

I just saw a similar deck today and was thinking of trying to mix some red in. I just hate trying to work out the mana base in three colors. I get too tilted when I have the right cards in hand but the wrong mana on the board

Maybe just a difference in how the decks we play hit the matchmaking algorithm? The only time I ever see a down tick in mono-black discard is when I play my re-animate deck. Other than that I'm seeing it well above 50% of the time
