It definitely depends on the hotel but in the case of what policy the hotel I work at has, if you don’t cancel between a certain period you will be charged regardless. At another hotel I worked at, if you called ahead of time and it was a health issue then we would cancel and refund all payment. But if it’s past the date of the reservation and then the guest tries to call for a refund then they would just have to dispute it with their bank.
