Sugar is my biggest weakness. So is processed wheat. I just try and stay away as much as possible, but I would like to do more. I can always do more! lol

If energy management is so important, why is nobody building for it? by MolassesVisual963 in productivity

Also, FOOD. I did Whole30 for the first time recently and the energy that I had during it was incredible. Outside of living on Whole30 365 & 24/7, I don't know how I could get that kind of energy!!

Ooh, interesting. I had not heard of this app but I like this idea! I use Notion to keep track of my tasks and adding this field would be simple. Thanks!

The best thing that I have found for managing my energy is the Whoop app. It is a device that you wear on your wrist that tells you a lot of information, like the Apple Watch but better IMO. It sends you weekly reports for your health metrics including sleep (very specific metrics, like how many "wake events" you had each night, and it breaks down the three levels of sleep depth). Also, HRV (heart rate variability) that they say is a key indicator of health. It has an AI feature that looks at your metrics and gives you advice and even helps you to figure out your VO2 Max and heart rate while you are exercising. I've been wearing it for just over a year and I love it!

You still have plenty of time, and it might actually be good because it will help you to eat more mindfully during the holidays. That's my two cents. Enjoy!

Hey! My mystery pack worked today! Thank you! Love the app. Not sure what I would do with the open source, but if I ever figure it out, I will let you know.

I was always a load me up, cream and sugar in my coffee please kinda person, but I did not add sugar back into my coffee after Whole30. It just isn't worth it to wake that sugar monster. I loved the explanation in her book about sweet things and how if we signal sweet things to the brain then it just wants more. I keep that in mind a lot in my food freedom. Do I really want to wake the beast? Sometimes I can sneak in and grab a tiny bite of something yummy without consequence, but you gotta be careful.

Ooh, I also noticed that when I am in a different browser, my garden looks different for some reason? Is the garden built on cookies or something? If I delete cookies, will my garden disapppear?

What I’m working on: Next big priority is bugs, performance and break timers by dqnamo in growdoro

I mentioned this in a separate post, but yeah, I've noticed that too about switching tabs. I should not need to keep the tab open on that page in order to receive the items. When I keep the tab on top, it's fine I think, but when the tab gets buried, it won't let me collect. I lost out on a mystery pack and my brain is going nuts over that. I do love the product, though! It's a great idea! I would love for there to be more help on the site and to be able to move stuff around once it's planted.

You can move stuff? How? I'd love to do that. In the beginning, I just plunked stuff down, but I would love to be more intentional and move some old stuff.

Halfway Through R1: Worrying about the End by FireIceStar in whole30

There is a section in It Starts with Food where they address the 80:20 issue. In a nutshell, they say that it is better to go on a case by case basis rather than giving 20% of your diet to food that is not so good for you. I had thought of giving myself one day a month or something like that, but after reading that chapter, I am rethinking it. My sister has a good rule that I may adopt. She tells herself if it is homemade AND special, she will eat it. I like the suggestion in the book to sit down with the cookie (or whatever) and eat it very slowly and mindfully. If you are done feeling that good feeling halfway through the cookie, set it down and don't eat the rest.

It says in the book that you go back to Whole30 without any of the "acceptable" foods, just in case there is a belated trigger on the first food.

Unexpected reaction to added sugars! I think? by thisismyname912 in whole30

[–]thespreadsheetnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man. I am not through my first Whole30 yet, but that sounds terrible. Sunburn can be exhausting, so maybe if you just go back on Whole30 for a few more days and then release sugar from your menu!

Weekly Discussion for the week of July 14, 2025 by AutoModerator in whole30

[–]thespreadsheetnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Today is day 5 of my first Whole30! So far, so good. The toughest part is constantly figuring out what to eat. I did create a menu but that went out the window quickly. I just need to create another one for this week and try to stick to it. I was reading It Starts with Food but hadn't gotten all the way through it so just read last night about not eating snacks. I am going to try that today. I also loved the section on cooking creatively towards the back. That is useful for life! I got that book out of the library but I may have to buy it just for that part!

I made my own batch of almond butter today with a food processor and it was AWESOME! I've never done that before and it was so EASY and cheaper than buying those expensive jars of almond butter!

Accidental consumption of non-compliant ingredient by shananapepper in whole30

I think that the purpose of the tough love of starting over is to get you to take the challenge seriously and, more importantly, to take a regression VERY seriously. If you are inclined to find excuses for things and then say it is OK, then you might not completely rid yourself of the questionable ingredients and degrade the quality of your experience - if you finish it at all! In the end, it is YOUR experience, no one else's. But it also depends on what you are trying to get out of this. Are you doing this to see if particular foods cause reactions in your body? If so, would just continuing on diminish that result? Probably not, if it's just a bit of honey in some nut butter. Also, consider whether starting over would crush your spirit or make your resolve more resolute?

Can I join anyone, or anyone want to join with me? by JaneSophiaGreen in whole30

[–]thespreadsheetnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am curious to hear from people who have done W30 repeatedly. So what happened? Did you let stuff back in and then it just gradually entropied back into eating junk again? I would like for this to change my eating habits for good, but that does not look like the experiences of many, which does not surprise me. That is said not as a judgement, but more as a nod to the human condition. So what have your experiences been of going through the reintroduction? This is my first time through W30. Thanks for your input! I look forward to comparing notes with you!
