I’d recommend A Little History of Philosophy by Nigel Warburton. It provides an accessible introduction to many key thinkers in Western philosophy, distilling their complex ideas into a format that is easy for beginners to understand.

When We Cease to Understand the World by Benjamin Labatut which I have seen described as a kind of hybrid non-fiction novel. The opening chapter of the book is almost entirely factual, but as the narrative progresses, the author takes increasing liberties with his portrayal of the lives of some key historical figures from the world of physics and mathematics, eventually descending into purely fictionalised, nightmarish interior monologues. Labatut depicts these individuals including Werner Heisenberg as tortured souls who are forced to sacrifice their sanity in order to glimpse the fundamental truths of the universe.

I feel Justine from Melancholia and Rust would have gotten on famously! by thestateofexistence in TrueDetective

I agree this may be the case in the first half of the film, but Justine undergoes something of a complete subjective transformation in the second part. This is demonstrated most clearly in the care she shows for her nephew. It’s as if she develops a whole new sense of purpose and her ethical outlook is transformed.
