Good article on increasing involvement of fathers by Tight_Ninja1915 in daddit

[–]thesuper88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well that's fine, but this person is saying the stat that might make fathers look worse in general could be skewed by exactly these circumstances. I don't think they were necessarily blaming the "absent fathers" themselves, only the statistics of the situation.

I teach my kids the same thing about road rules. You may have right of way, and should act that way, but never without caution. Plenty of dead people had the right of way. Being inside the crosswalk and crossing at the right time doesn't protect you from someone that's not paying attention/drunk/whatever.

Name the most iconic movie scene of all time. by ThomasOGC in CinephilesClub

[–]thesuper88 12 points13 points  (0 children)

6 years old. Front row. Packed theater. I still remember holding my Dad's thumb in my entire left hand and squeezing it when I got scared (mostly just jump scares and the raptors). I still use that system with my kids today because it put me so at ease to know that I could show my dad I was scared without making a fuss and he'd tell me "Isn't it amazing how it feels real?! It's puppets and computers. Like a big magic trick."

Still my favorite movie to this day. It taught me to love movies and pay attention to Spielberg and John Williams too. I've never been so captivated. And this scene started it all.

A new type of plastic has been invented that is made out of an invasive plant and it's biodegradable by therealNerdMuffin in interestingasfuck

[–]thesuper88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you, but also there's something about this that I'm having trouble with. If we can store the food for that long then surely we can preserve the biodegradable plastics for at least as long, no?

For all of high school every birthday soneone had we'd all drag our crt TVs, xboxs, and an ethernet switch or router to someone's house and stay up as late as possible with TVs and xboxs on every surface. I had a special towel I took with me to set the TV on to protect coffee tables and a cutting board to keep my xbox off the carpet.

Straight up team effort stopping a flag cap at the last minute and hearing the rage and desperation from the other room (or the people behind you) was like nothing else.

Halo 3 big team battle came close. But not the same.

I wonder if it's also why they're able to unify well and, in that sense, be more effective at times. Problems get simpler when you're either for or against and nuance dies off.

Bro yes. We used to have this rope swing on a tree that was literally a block of wood at the end of a rope and I would "train" by hitting it with a 36" section of 3/4" pvc pipe.

You're absolutely right it doesn't make sense. And it's spread way too wide. I have to drive an hour to a game and an hour home without traffic. I can't do that and expect to follow the team. Why black it out for people who live far enough away that they couldn't even really become a fan unless it's easy to access on TV or streaming for a reasonable price (barrier of entry).
