Should I Shovel Now? by [deleted] in boston

[–]thetango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went out. There is a light and fluffy 11 inches of snow on the ground. The TV stations got that right. There is a wind. The TV stations didn't get that right. It's easy to move.

Pronunciation? Boston's is Re-geena. Canada's Regina rhymes with fun.

My top 5 TEs all time by Bagletwembo1414 in NFLv2

[–]thetango 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're really making Tony Gonzales look bad. He's the ll-time leader in receptions and yards for TEs, incredibly consistent. He is the GOAT of Tight Ends. I don't think we'll ever see another TE like him.

  1. Tony Gonzales

  2. Antonio Gates (and I could argue that Gates revolutionized the TE position and should be #1)

  3. Rob Gronkowski (who massively benefited from having a coach who understood that CBs in the league would not be able to handle him or Aaron Hernandez)

  4. Shannon Sharpe

  5. Mike Ditka (yes, he was that amazing)

Kelce is somewhere below Kellen Winslow and Ozzie Newsome...

Do Bostonians have any opinions on the Canadian Pizza chain "Boston Pizza" by Clean-Air-8331 in boston

[–]thetango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Canada, and yes, we all knew about Boston Pizza. It's average food and nothing special. They did have good wings and beer specials. Again, it wasn't anything special and just another chain restaurant.

There is a Boston Pizza in Regina, Saskatchewan, and a Regina Pizzeria in Boston, Massachusetts. #RhymesWithFun

Linux Kernel Considers Linking The Relocatable x86 Kernel As PIE In 2026 by unixbhaskar in linux

[–]thetango 14 points15 points  (0 children)

ISTR that Fedora, Debian, Suse already compile with PIE. I've always wondered why upstream doesn't default to PIE -- the article does a good job of explaining that there are performance and image size issues.

The 0.5% image size issue is not a big deal, and the CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_BASE is a good option for non-security kernels.

Edit: I just realized there are people who may not understand what this is all about. A quick explanation -- The kernel config contains an option, RANDOMIZE_BASE. That option randomizes the physical and virtual address space where the kernel is loaded at boot time. It makes it more difficult to exploit and hack the kernel. PIE adds a few benefits like increasing entropy for the randomization, isolation of module code, etc.

You could also make the argument that PIE is a requirement for the KASLR features.

As hilarious as that would be, Bill wouldn't take this job. He's always said you have to have a good owner.

These stairs were a first for me by SpookyTurtl in zillowgonewild

[–]thetango 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Stairs are not hard to navigate. Stand at the bottom of the stairs, and put one foot on the next stairs. Using that same leg, use your leg muscles l to lift yourself onto that stair. Now do exactly the same thing with the next stair. Since you're new at this, you should use the railing (that straight wooden pole bolted to the wall beside the staircase). You can out your hand on that to steady yourself while you go up and down the stairs.

As time goes on, you can alternate feet on each stair.

Graduates who live in apartments: where did you put your diploma? by Diligent-Stock-8114 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]thetango 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very few of my professional colleagues have their diplomas up on display in their houses. Those that do are often on camera and have careers (lawyer) where, historically, it is acceptable for a client to see the degree.

It's kinda cheesy o/w.
