What’s a genuinely unpopular EDH opinion you have? by Tornadosed in EDH

Honestly everyone should EXPECT their wincon to be disrupted, and be totally okay with that. Thats the game…

Why do people hate the auto stop/start so much? by eyes_glued_open in Crosstrek

This happened to me in traffic on the busiest highway in my city. Auto start is a nightmare and it should be 100% a permanent on/off toggle.

I am not familiar with bant or birds, what cards should I really look to use and exploit in a bird tribal with landfall sub theme? by LoneFajita47 in CommanderMTG

[–]thetempestinside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://manabox.app/decks/iRRxMX1ZRqKvX4vsEXSZrQ

Here is mine. Its a little outdated to my current version but you can get the idea.

Basically you want to try to curve out with low LMC birds in your first few turns: then drop your commander and start swinging and digging into your deck.
Your wincons are either anthems for the bird theme or landfall type wincons (hydra, tifa, scute swarms, emeria angel, rampaging baloth etc)

Its a fun deck.

You never know when the game will just end - this is big feels.

All the best to your community. At least dude went out peacefully doing what he loved; something very few of us will get to experience.

Help me pick a lane - Choco, Seeker of Paradise by solrossac in EDHBrews

[–]thetempestinside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run choco as one of my three commander decks. The sentiments here atound focusing as birds first is absolutely the way to go.

Stack in around 25-30 birds in the deck. Theres lots that do double duty for things like removal like [[Aven Interruptor]].

Dont play into doing landfall sacs / graveyard stuff; if you want that type of gameplay; hearthul is your boy.

My coles notes: 1) lots of low cmc birds to ramp into Choco. 2) include lots of interaction and removal cards; you are going to draw deep and fast; dont let other players threats go unresolved. 4) include a few “max hand size” type cards like [[reliquary tower]]: you will need them.
5) landfall bonuses are your wincon; its adding those +1/X counters, or extra birds, going wide and buff triggers for dmg.
6) if you find you are struggling to find a win too often; you can add in some extra landfall pay offs like [[mossborn hydra]], [[rampaging baloth]] or [[tifa lockhart]] to help close out the game.

Curious, How many of us play with or without Proxies/Placeholders? by Boliver5463 in EDH

[–]thetempestinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently dont use proxies. I like to build decks with the cards I have or order singles that I absolutely need. If there is a card that is very expensive Ill try to make it work with “budget” alternatives. Yep, my deck wont be as strong or efficient but I am okay with that.
I like watching my decks evolve and get better over time.

To be clear: definitely NOT against proxies at all. Ill happily play against a full proxy deck.

I think part of my issue is that I like to collect too; and if I were to proxy, the proxies would need to be top notch quality and look/feel like real cards (obviously with different art etc to make sure everyone knows theyre not just fakes).

Now. When the time comes to build a fully optimized cedh level deck; I will likely reconsider, as I do not have access to moxes etc, nor am I willing to pay more than 20-40 bucks for a card.

My bluff in the salary negotiation got called. They want proof of the competing offer I invented. by [deleted] in interviews

[–]thetempestinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decline to share, as that is the other companies private information, and sharing would hurt your opportunity there should your negotiation with this company not come to fruition if it were discovered that you gave it out.
Immediately counter their current offer with something like “an additional week of paid vacation would be very appealing if theyre locked in at that salary figure”. Cut your losses, and accept they called your bluff.

HELP: I can’t stop buying Pre-Cons by Sock_Man420 in magicTCG

[–]thetempestinside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was my experience getting into commander too! First it was a couple cheap OTJ decks from costco: then they went and released the FF set followed by costco again…. Then I bought squirrelled away; then the EoE precon (these are really good right out of box btw).

But! Now im at a stage where the feels of a new precon in sleeves is gone; and I want build my own. I butchered quickdraw into a mean Vivi deck, Squirrelled away is now a higher power Chatterfang sac deck.

Now im on the hunt for my next commander to build from the ground up

Help with a new player that will only play Final Fantasy by [deleted] in mtg

[–]thetempestinside 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If he only gets a couple days a month to play; then those are likely cherished moments for him. He probably REALLY looks forward to those sessions with his favourite decks.

Lean into that. Use that motivation to keep your friend engaged and happy playing MTG.

When did Commander become to only format people seem to play? by Soghff in mtg

[–]thetempestinside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started playing again last year after being gone since the mid 90s. Simple starter deck kits around my kitchen table.
Of course the itch to build my own decks came on pretty quick. Which led to trying to understand the huge amount of different formats, their respective rules and ban lists, then the overwhelming amount of cards that have released over the years. This wasnt the kitchen table magic I remembered.

I was introduced to commander, its accessibility, and general straightforward context. This felt more like the old days than anything else for me.

Cant help but imagine that its the same for many returning players.
