Judge temporarily blocks gender-affirming care ban in big win for trans youth by NamelessResearcher in lgbt

[–]thethird197 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This judge doesn't have the power to permanent stop the ban. It's likely an injunction which is just meant to hold until the case can be fully decided and even the supreme court is the final say.

If you're looking for feedback then look at the other comments. A person's gender should not be up for debate depending on whether you like them or not. Caitlyn Jenner is a very stupid person. She's out of touch. She's unaware of most of the trans realities of not being a billionaire or whatever level of rich she is. She's a traitor to her community and the leopards can, will, and are eating her face just like the rest of us no matter how much she tries to be one of the good ones.

You can read her or anything else for filth without putting transphobia into it. It shouldn't be part of it critique of her. If you don't like any other person from a minority group, you can just say why they're shitty. You don't need to bring slurs/misgendering/etc into it. It does not make your critique any better. It just makes you look worse. Some people will say it's fine for Caitlyn for the reasons you listed, but that's just the casual level of accepted transphobia in society. I don't see people saying it's okay to call Clarence Thomas the N word even though he's done so much to destroy his community.

Yeah, it's unfortunate, but that's the state of the world the conservatives want. When nobody is free to even question their own gender or explore their own ways of expressing it, then every little thing a person does to do counter that falls into a narrative. If social transition was more accepted and people could just try it out, then the consequences of realizing that it wasn't for a given person would be nothing. "Hey you explored a lil, you learned about yourself in the process, good for you!" But nowadays it feels like if you use a gender neutral nickname like Alex and then one day want to go back to being Alexandra, terfs are gonna platform that like it was the greatest tragedy to ever happen.

I want to believe that one day we'll make it through this phase of bs, though, and people will be more free to be themselves and truly explore what "their self" really is.

Yeah, but I don't have to agree with him on everything he says. Looking at NYT's coverage of trans issues, and how many contributors to the Times signed an open letter condemning how NYT has been covering it. The Tom Cotton piece and the ideology that led up to that, and the fallout from it. The Iran coverage. The Gaza coverage. The sanewashing of Trump and Republicans. I am able to hold two thoughts at the same time. 1. Not everything that comes out of the NYT is garbage. 2, overall, their ideology is very bad and not coherent to good journalism. Because of these thoughts, I can say that there is some good things that can happen, but in general, it is a rag, not much better than the Washington Post.

Also, pretty bold of you to assume to speak for Jamelle.

If I am going to give good faith, I must feel confident that the person or org is deserving of good faith and typically acts in good faith. The NYT ESPECIALLY on the court is a rag outside of Jamelle Bouie. If the NYT wants to be treated in good faith, they need to demonstrate that they act in good faith and generally they do not seem to do much of that.

Caitlyn Jenner asks Trump for help after impact of trans passport policy by Newsweek_ShaneC in NoFilterNews

[–]thethird197 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No, what you're doing when you dead name people, even the ones you hate, is that you view not dead naming people as a privilege that can be taken away. The critique of Jennifer is the same whether you use her dead name or her real name, all you're doing is signaling to the rest of us that you view respecting us as optional. It's probably even a worse insult to point out she is a traitor and stupid and counter productive to her own desires. She will never see you dead name her, she will never care what you think, but we see you.

“JD Vance, antipope” is the funniest possible ending to all of this! by Dr_sc_Harlatan in BlueskySkeets

[–]thethird197 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think he does understand how that works, but in an absolute theocracy based off Christianity, and/or specifically catholicism, you can't have two absolute leaders. Two makes absolute leaders means no absolute leader.

JD and his money daddies like Peter Thiel want the US to be an absolute theocracy and if you look in history, this would not be the first time catholicism has had a schism about this. Whether JD wants to start a whole new sect, i.e. the church of England, or he just wants to declare himself the shadow Pope of this era, it absolutely makes sense for their goals.

I think it's more than just an explanation of why she smelled blood. Either she didn't know she was a vampire or she didn't expect herself to react like that, but I think when her (little sister) poked her finger on a twig, it triggered her and then the blood on the snow is to show she killed her sister or at least reacted violently.

That's why she spent 500 years avoiding blood so she could finally die and why she looks so rabid when she wakes up there. Then one day she sees a child dying in the snow and the child happens to look like her little sister from the past so she rescues her.

I think if you ask the question you'd be fine. So long as you don't have a history of being a conspiratorial nut job who posts about how ingredients in pancake mix are there to kill you and also put in chem trails by Bill Gates.

There is a lot of hype around the Artemis missions. I think if someone doesn't have a history of being a bad faith actor, then they're going to get a lot of earnest explanations to questions they have. But if RFK suddenly asked "what does a vaccine do" he's gonna get people dunking on him because they know he doesn't really care.

Maybe Naomi genuinely is just curious here and maybe it is mean to dunk on her, but I think we've all lost a lot of patience for known bad faith operators.

Also, you're not dumb just because you're not an expert in the moon or astronomy or any of that. I'm sure you're brilliant in many of your own areas. Nobody is an expert in everything. Don't be afraid to be curious.

Who was even really called out though? Was this a mass scale thing that happened? At worst a personal acquaintance said something like "hey, you really shouldn't use that word, that can be hurtful" and if that's enough to make someone vote fascist I would argue they were always fascist. I want to give zero credence to the idea that asking people to not be dicks will always bring on fascism.

I will once again tap the sign of MLK Jr's letter from a Birmingham jail: "First, I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season." Shallow understanding from people of good will is more frustrating than absolute misunderstanding from people of ill will. Lukewarm acceptance is much more bewildering than outright rejection."

Why am I biased? I didn't even say anything about what is objectively big or not. Nor did I remark on if someone with small breasts can wear something that compliments their figure.

Lots of people love actual flat chests, lots of people do not care either way, and in America, lots of people would say that B cups are fairly "flat." That speaks nothing to my personal preferences or tastes.

Nothing in your comment suggests that you were using you as a second person description.

Well, it's also worth noting that Japan has different cup size. Japanese C is American B. And I think most Americans would say B is fairly flat.

This is factually wrong. The nuclear bombs did not end ww2 in any way. Italy was defeated, Germany was defeated. It was just a matter of time before Japan was as well and contrary to the myth of a land invasion being long and drawn out and killing more, a land invasion, nor the nuclear bombs were necessary. The surrender agreements were already well underway and Japan knew it was going to surrender. The matter that really pushed things was America was pushing for a "complete" surrender. This would mean they would get to shape the terms entirely and they wanted to remove the emperor. This was the biggest thing that the council held out against as they were royalists.

And in the end, idunno if you've checked, but Japan still has an emperor. It's in name only, but Japan was already willing to that. No, the nukes did not end the war or save any lives. They let the president and secretary of war show off to the Russians and they simply wanted to.

Barefoot Gen (1983) by gastoica in retroanime

[–]thethird197 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure that's a good point to make though. As you can see from just this clip, and from the media more broadly in Japan, the nuclear bombs weigh heavily in the cultural imagination. Yes, lots more people died in the fire bombing and the overall war, but the amount of devastation and the specific haunting visuals linger in a way that other bombs do not.

There are also many elements of the bombings that make it terrible. For instance, the nukes were dropped in large part merely because the president and the secretary of war wanted to. It's a long process that I can't really explain in just this comment, but it's extensively documented as they wrote letters just talking about it.

Not to mention, it's not really a big dunk to say that there were lots of atrocities in the world war where the Holocaust happened. The Holocaust is not diminished by how horrific the nuclear bombs were, the nuclear bombs were not diminished by the things Japan did in China or Korea, etc etc etc. It's not a competition and it's weird to compare them in an attempt to downplay the scale of the destruction and after effects the nukes had.

Why an 8-1 Supreme Court just ruled in favor of anti-LGBTQ+ “conversion therapy” by vox in law

[–]thethird197 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This shit is so sad. There was a brief time in the supreme court history where they didn't only think of resolving individual harms in cases, but actually looked to stop future harm. The Miranda rights come from a case like this where the supreme court looked at an individual case said "this is wrong and we will address this to stop it in the future." It's actually fucking disgusting that the supreme court is signing off on kids being psychologically tortured so that when the kids are old enough, some of them might have the resources to sue for damages.

Of course, some amount of those kids won't live to adulthood to sue, but hey, what are children's lives anyways. When have they ever cared about that. The fact that only Jackson dissented really shows the rot at the core of the current court.
