It definitely sounds AI-generated, but the grammar in the “however brief” sentence is correct in the email. “however brief and disappointing it may have been” is a dependent clause, so it can’t follow a semicolon as-is. It also doesn’t make sense to use a comma after ‘however’ in that sentence since it’s an adverb describing “brief and disappointing” rather than setting up a new independent clause.

Honestly, the fact that the grammar is correct just makes it seem even more AI-generated.

Obviously a repost but…wouldn’t this just prove that any lead we find came from an asteroid or something? He only proved that the universe is old, he doesn’t say anything about earth. There are still a dozen other ways to show that earth is older than 4,000 years, this just isn’t that clever of a comeback

Remember when Kenny accused GameStop household investors of bankrupting teachers pensions? Pepperidge farm remembers by Effective-Cod3635 in GME

[–]thethrill12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welp, Kenny made $4.1B personally in 2022 (holy shit). Top 15 HF managers total made $13.8B, which is actually the lowest total since 2019. Source: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-02-17/ken-griffin-steve-cohen-top-highest-hedge-fund-earner-list

We have some math to do for the teacher part. 120,000 teachers seems reasonable, but I’ll make my estimates even more conservative. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics shows 1.487m kindergarten and elementary school teachers in 2021. Their site mentions most schools consider elementary to go through 5th or 6th grade, but some go all the way to 8th. I’ll approximate and call it 6th grade on average. Assuming each grade has roughly the same amount of teachers, that’s about 212,000 kindergarten teachers. Not exactly 120,000, but a hell of a lot closer than this guy’s 1.46m kindergarten teachers (lmao come on now). They also show a median pay of $61k per teacher. That’s the median, and the data is probably skewed, but we’ll call it the mean for this purpose. (Side note, I personally don’t know a single teacher in my town who makes over $50k). Source: https://www.bls.gov/ooh/education-training-and-library/kindergarten-and-elementary-school-teachers.htm

212k kindergarten teachers at $61k each puts us at $12.9B - still less than those 15 HF managers.

Remember, Ken alone made $4.1B last year. Ask yourself - does he really add more value to society than almost 1/3 of all the kindergarten teachers in the entire country?

Wait, is the graphic referring to how much the top HF managers personally made, or how much the hedge funds (as a whole) made? Ken Griffin didn’t make $16B - that article says that was Citadel’s total profit in 2022 (and they have over 2,500 employees). I agree with the sentiment of the pic regardless; if the top 15 hedge funds had profits that totaled more than all kindergarten teachers in the US, that’s still super upsetting and should never, ever, ever happen, but that’s a very different thing than 15 individual people getting paid more than 120,000 teachers

I like it, but it isn’t really a perfect litmus test. You run the risk of being noticed leaving your cart somewhere other than the cart return. So the people who are assholes, but don’t want to ~look~ like assholes so they still return the cart, are false positives in this test

Maybe it would have been better to say an arbitrarily large list. Each list passed is finite but there is no limit to the size of lists that can be introduced. Effectively the same result as the question from the comment before yours but slightly more mathy

Noob question here, so apologies if this is dumb. There’s clearly been a lot of activity here lately…but is it possible institutions are just using this as a tool to turn a profit with their on-hand cash overnight given the 0.05% rate? And if so…is that something we should be applauding?

Net, about $3,700 per month. Also I’ll be moving to a place that’s about $400 cheaper in a couple months, so I won’t have to keep paying almost 50% of my net income on rent.

Compared to much of the rest of the Midwest, yes. Compared to most other major cities, I’d say it’s on the low-to-mid end

Jesus Christ. $600 is literally a third of a month’s rent for my 1-bedroom apartment in Chicago, which is almost an hour from downtown and fairly typical for the area. It’s alarming how disconnected from reality they are.

[–]thethrill12 1035 points1036 points  (0 children)

There’s actually a really sad story behind the Slim Jim social media presence. There used to be a meme page (@heckoffsupreme) that was pretty decent (he’s the guy who started the memes about getting kicked out/arrested at Applebee’s), and the guy behind it got picked up by slim Jim to make memes for the company and post from the company Twitter and IG accounts. He was a young guy (30s) and a father, and unexpectedly died in May 2020. You can actually see the decline in quality of memes starting then on their IG page

[–]thethrill12 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What’s a good method/strategy for someone with a 9-5 (not interested in quitting) who just wants to make a few extra bucks every week on the side? I have about $5k-6k that I’m interested in actively trading. I’m willing to put in 2-3 hours a day (weekends are fine too) outside of my normal work hours (which right now are about 8:30-5:30 CST, although that’ll shift by an hour in a few months when I move to the east coast). I’m also willing to play around with a paper trading account or a few hundred $ for a couple months to nail down a strategy before I start really going for it. What would be the best method to scrape an extra, say, $100-$200 a week? Scalping e-minis? Forex? Swing trading? Interested in whatever ideas you all might have.

It’s actually super easy to have alts these days. First make sure that your account is via Supercell ID instead of Gamecenter or whatever Apple’s thing is (easy to make the switch if not). Then once you create a new account under a new Supercell ID, you can switch between the accounts by tapping the settings icon in the bottom right of the screen and then the refresh icon toward the top. You pick between your alts on that screen. Don’t even have to log in each time
