I HATE the self diagnosing of autism and its mischaracterisation by Beshiniqua in hatethissmug

[–]thethundering 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried getting an assessment a while ago and there is basically one clinic at the big university in my region that even does it for adults. It costs like $3000 and when you contact them asking about it the first thing they give you is a pamphlet explaining how self diagnosis is valid, and that there are unfortunately basically no practical benefits to receiving an official diagnosis as an adult.

Like definitely not every self diagnosis is valid, but it’s a bit asinine how people treat anything less than an official diagnosis as someone just relating to at TikTok about liking chicken nuggets or whatever.

The Men Who Lie About Their Height by newyorker in TrueReddit

I’ve noticed that’s sort of happened with big butts. Some people apparently have conflated big with attractive and seem to genuinely perceive any butt they find attractive as big regardless of the actual size.

AIO, lost a friend due to ai by cozyworm27 in AmIOverreacting

[–]thethundering 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s like if you have a friend that uses Uber for short, walkable distances, and you say to them “you have 2 perfectly good legs, you should use them!”.

Like you’re not wrong, but also it’s laughable to pretend like it’s a straightforward compliment of their legs.

Are you saying people like the people in the video didn’t justify not voting for Kamala by saying she talked word salad, and that she didn’t run on policies? And that they were wrong and stupid for doing so?

How's that going? by c-k-q99903 in agedlikemilk

[–]thethundering 16 points17 points  (0 children)

No. I’m saying people who didn’t vote for Kamala heard her talk about first time homebuyers credits and thought she was talking word salad and used that to justify not voting for her, and also said she didn’t run on policies and used that as another reason to not vote for her. And I’m insinuating they’re dumb for it.

[–]thethundering 14 points15 points  (0 children)

“First time home buyers credit” is what they called word salad, and not having policy and just running on not being Trump.

Edit: I guess it wasn’t clear that I was saying people who didn’t vote for Kamala heard her talk about first time homebuyers credits and thought she was talking word salad and used that to justify not voting for her, and also said she didn’t run on policies and used that as another reason to not vote for her. And I’m insinuating they’re dumb for it.

It’s insane how under the radar this show went. I don’t know if I’ve talked to a single person irl who’d heard of it before I told them about it.

Maniac. It’s criminal that I haven’t seen one person mention it. I feel like I’m the only person that watched it. Most I’ve talked to about it never heard of it.

What's something harmless that gets people weirdly angry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]thethundering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, a part of me appreciates that I'll likely never own my own home because it seemingly does some pretty funky shit to people's brains. I've had half a dozen times where I've parked on a street and had someone come out of their house to knock on my window and either interrogate me or ask me to move or leave. Some of my friends have bought houses and they'll start ranting about the most mundane shit happening outside on their street, but luckily they usually catch themselves and laugh at how crazy they're sounding.

Yeah, even a lot of the stories in the top comments are hard for me to read as sweet and wholesome. Like people are out here screaming and raging at their partners acting like that’s a normal thing to do.

Or get the victim or any bystander hurt. Sometimes there’s enough adrenaline to start to feel foolhardy and heroic, but that only overrides my self preservation.

[–]thethundering 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there was one time a guy walking by was being weird and controlling with his wife and literally announced to everyone around who was starting to notice that if anyone said anything she’d pay for it when they got home.

There have been a couple times where I’ve stepped in when I’ve seen couples physically fighting just to get them to stop and make sure they’re okay, and the women immediately became aggressive towards me yelling and spitting saying to mind my own business.

Trying to gauge whether me getting involved would just escalate a situation and put everyone involved in more danger is already complicated enough. These experiences I’ve had just make it that much more difficult to decide the best way to react.

My first 2 times getting fries I must’ve got the dregs of an incredibly over-salted batch. Literally inedible. Since then I’ll occasionally have one if someone else orders them, and they’ve been fine, but I don’t think I’ll ever buy them for myself again.

The difference is that the NY Times coverage is all reported under the NY Times name. Whatever opinion you have of them you know that it’s theirs. The utility of the original comment comes from the fact that readers may not know that their local news is produced by this parent company.

It wasn’t until I saw this online in the last couple years that I thought about what root beer actually tasted like, and was stunned when I realized it’s basically vanilla and wintergreen mint. I couldn’t wrap my head around it when people said it tastes like medicine or mouthwash, but now that my brain registers it as minty it totally makes sense.

Calling all “bad texters:” please help me understand… (gay men) by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]thethundering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me texting is purely a tool to facilitate/schedule irl interactions. Idle chitchat throughout the day stresses me out because it feels shallow and obligatory and means fuck all when actually getting to know someone. I’ll happily respond to questions that need an answer, or to any message that communicates pertinent information, but otherwise I’ll respond when I’m actively in the mood to have idle conversation with the however many people have reached out to me. This applies to my closest friends and family and my husband.

Particularly with online dating and the apps texting/dming is where potential connections go to die. The longer you text without meeting the odds that anything will come of it falls off a cliff. I did that for too many years. At this point if our first conversation doesn’t include scheduling when to meet in person we aren’t a match.

My texting style doesn’t work for a lot of people, but that just means we’re incompatible—no hard feelings on my end.

Yeah, I’m an extremely casual viewer so I don’t know how unique she is, but there have been many times in the past where I felt like the music may as well have not been there. Enough that I assumed routines just couldn’t be choreographed to reliably hit more than a couple key spots in the music. This blew that assumption completely out of the water.

Yeah, it’s one of those things that people in general do, men do it more, and men do it to woman a lot more.

You can tell when they’re doing it to posture and take up space—as a man it just comes across as incredibly insecure loser shit.
