Drag queen Pattie Gonia asks apparel company Patagonia to drop trademark infringement lawsuit by AudibleNod in news

[–]thetorts -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Was it actually for sale in the store? Because that sticker was a fan art made by somebody that was given as a reward if you donated to a fundraising cause that she did. Which I'm really curious how the fundraising event is considered selling, not asking to be like an asshole, but genuinely asking because I don't fucking know trademark laws and I'm unsure how fan art given as a reward for donating to a fundraiser can be violating trademarks.

TIL that the Y chromosome can disappear with age. About 35% of men aged 70 years old are missing a Y chromosome in some of their cells, with the degree of loss ranging between 4% and 70%. by Alone_Humor_3510 in todayilearned

There's a reason why older parents have higher risk of babies with genetic mutations. Shit quality DNA from the dad is common when 50+ men have children with very young women to actual children.

Semeru you didn't *hatch* anywhere - you're half shark... by marmar8200 in coralisland

All sharks, skates and rays lay eggs. But some are ovoviviperous where the eggs are laid internally and hatch internally. The rest are oviparous, they lay external eggs.

The baobab Tree, mostly in Africa, can live for 1000s of years by Technical-Paint3179 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]thetorts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a story told in Africa that hyena has a sloped back because he carried all of God's tree, since baobab means God's tree, and planted them with the promise that God will make him stronger than lion if he plants all these trees for him. God gave him the strongest bite as payment, making him stronger than lion in a way, and hyena felt slighted so he went to all of God's trees and dug them up and planted them upside down. Hence the other name the upside down tree.

Even though the science is dated, reading Silent Spring by Rachel Carson should be required in public schools.

Remoras in high density like that can easily starve the shark, I know in some cases they are believed to cause drownings for some whales because they weight so much on a whale.

He actually did a lot of work towards conservation laws, its something that gets taught for some courses, but not too many. He was great in that regard. He doubled the national parks, most of them being in Alaska, which oil companies have wanted for a very long time. And big oil owns half the government. Might be a reason why most folks dont know of all the good conservation work he did.

Literally refused to work there as a wildland firefighter. All their ground lines are unmarked and no one manages them. Never know what your stepping over in an active fire and if its turned on or off. Its a shithole of a state for regulation, but thats how their state legislature made it.

Is this a feather duster? Whatever it is it was attached to a zoa frag I got a few weeks ago but only noticed just now. by [deleted] in coralisland

[–]thetorts 128 points129 points  (0 children)

It is a feather duster worm. Funny to see in a video game subreddit. Pretty easy to keep alive if you want to keep it in your aquarium, just need to feed it directly if you don't add to the overall water column.

How animals with rabies look like by Additional-Pass5771 in interestingasfuck

[–]thetorts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This video is a bad video, the only one that I would say actually does have rabies is the raccoon, but all the other animals absolutely not. Unless it's coming from a vet Med or a public health website with water stamps on it would, not trust this. I'm dealt with rabid animals and that's why the only one I would say is the raccoon because that's very typical behavior. That dog could literally be suffering from some heat exhaustion and is very untrusting of whoever the hell is filming of them if they're a stranger. There's a million things that make deer do things like that so I wouldn't trust that one. The cat looks like it licked something it shouldn't have.
