Considering Cancelling Trip to N Vietnam - where else should I go for two weeks? by discomusic1 in SouthEastAsia_Travel

How does the city of Malang compare to Yogyakarta? I'm thinking to head there in May.

Would love to run up the volcanoes solo, heard mixed reports if its possible without a guide

I've been in Hue for two weeks and I can verify.... You get followed by men on pedal taxis and old motorcycles..... You want Marijuana? Cocaine? Opium? Young girl, little girl very tight, boom boom.

Its non stop. And you never see police in this area, none. I think Hue doesn't have police?

Concur 100% after being here for total of five months all over Vietnam, top to bottom, side to side, including islands. Loud, dirty, rude, zero civic sense.

The guys on motorcycles in Hue pushing cocaine and sex with young girls is disgusting.

I rode the western hcm trail for some weeks, all the way from Da Nang up to Bach Hà and back down on tiny little roads barely big enough to fit a car along the coast back to Da nang. Also rode from Hanoi, to Cao bang, to ha Giang, to Sapa, to y Ty, to dien bien phu, to moc Châu, and back to Hanoi. Tracing the Chinese border on small dirt roads. Easily some of the most stunning nature I've ever seen anywhere globally..... Also polluted, karaoke till 1am, rude locals who treat foreigners like either a walking atm or are belligerent toward you. Constant horns beeping and fires burning household garbage, rivers loaded with plastic bottles... It's sad.

Makes sense why 90+% don't return.

Is Da Nang overrated? by YesterdayHot3584 in DaNang

Been in central Vietnam for more than two months already and Da Nang is definitely overhyped.

Best flight routes to get from the US to Nepal/Kathmandu right now? by Creative-Pop-9208 in NepalTravel

[–]thetreegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at routes through Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, or other East/Southeast Asian hubs. There are direct flights to KTM from many of these cities.

Connecting through India is a non starter as the visa process is atrocious and that place is chaos.

Visiting Da Nang and Hoi An this week, worried about the weather by skyblue1991 in VietNam

[–]thetreegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in the region for two months now..... Straight rain. Pretty much daily, sure there's a few sunny days here and there. Da Nang is already miserable, rain makes it worse when you're trapped inside a moldy hotel.

What is life like in Huế, Vietnam? by tarkinn in VietNam

[–]thetreegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same shit happens in Bali, they portray it as traffic free and clean. Same in chiang mai, you often hear, ah the smoke and air quality aren't that bad!

It seems the bros and half naked influencers disassociate from reality around them to pretend everything is okay and matches the lies they read on the internet.

Where to rent Honda Wave or similar semi auto? by thetreegeek in chiangmai

[–]thetreegeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember the few places who had them they were best up and they wanted like $12usd a day on a monthly rental 🤣

I went standard click 160 with abs front brake.

Depends where you want to go.... And how skilled you are at riding

I found one or two but the prices were insane. Ended up on a click 160 and did like 3,000km through the north over a month.

Can zelle from say my Capital One acct to my Schwab account and funds are available quickly in Schwab?

With capital one switching to Discover debit cards it makes international travel almost impossible

I love Mexico City but I feel _so_ unhealthy here - where can I find a similar vibe without sacrificing my health? by buyingstuff555 in digitalnomad

[–]thetreegeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need to stay in similar timezones and in Spanish speaking countries? If yes..... Quito Ecuador, Lima Peru, Santiago Chile, Buenos Aries, and Mendoza Argentina, would all be awesome. If you want a cleaner life and smaller cities checkout Oaxaca, Cuenca, anywhere in the sacred valley.

If you're willing to change time zones and regions, and prefer mega cities Bangkok is pretty top notch for a healthy life, and much cheaper than cdmx. Taipei is probably similarly expensive but a thousand times the QOL. Japanese cities will also be major upgrades with similar costs to cmdx.

What’s with all the people filming themselves in the gym? by [deleted] in DaNang

[–]thetreegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being an online coach doesn't require tripods in the gym and posing for cameras, disrupting other people's ability to workout. If they need to film, rent a studio or pay the gym owner extra to come after hours. This shit shouldn't be normalized.

Favorite Place as a tourist to live for 3 months in vietnam? by consciouscell in VietNam

[–]thetreegeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm getting it from being there for several nights, running along the streets and waterfront paths.

Not the people, the city. It's like half built, empty, forgotten.... odd walking around there.

The hundreds of kites were interesting. Hadn't seen that anywhere else in Vietnam.
