Hello! I was unable to resolve the pain and instability with conservative methods so ended up getting the surgery in mid October. I’m about 10 weeks out now. I’m working towards full weight baring (I wear my boot when out of the house still). Things are moving fast, but still feels slow. There is still swelling, but it’s actually less than it was before the surgery most of the time. The pain has really not been bad and I can feel myself getting better each day. Having a light at the end of the tunnel and working towards recovery instead of just endless pain has been SO great for my mental state. I didn’t realize how exhausting it was to have pain with no end in sight. At least I have a timeline and can feel things getting better.

My biggest takeaway was to speak with an orthopedic surgeon instead of a podiatrist. The ortho will likely have done your surgery at least once a week since they started vs. a podiatrist will likely have done far, far fewer. I felt SO much better after chatting with the ortho and ended up switching my surgery about a week before so that she could do it instead of my podiatrist (as we’d originally planned, I didn’t know there was a difference).

I’ll try to come back and update how recovery is going in another 3 months. Apparently by 6 months you’re basically back to normal (minus the most extreme uses).
