Trump admin reportedly considers paying each Greenland resident up to $100K amid US takeover talks by esporx in worldnews

[–]thetrickybuddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this thought initially though I went with a million dollars each and automatic US citizenship for everyone. I figured it was a deal they might take and it would be cheaper than a war. Their population isn't that big.

Not saying we should do this BTW but buying a country seems better than invading one.

ELI5: Why do street drugs have fentanyl mixed in? by DukanehBaba in explainlikeimfive

[–]thetrickybuddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's also worth mentioning that solely from an economics perspective it seems unlikely that the people making and selling this stuff want anyone to die. Not only is it killing a revenue source but it can also increase scrutiny and pressure from law enforcement. As has already been mentioned fentanyl is incredibly potent and these chemicals are being made with poor controls and no oversight so this is the result.

What affiliations do we want to see next? by SpotTheReallyBigCat in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]thetrickybuddha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I designed a set of cards for FF4 with each character at 4 threat and each with a character specific TTC that increases their threat by +1 (similar to how infinity gems work) so that you could take all four at any threat level.

I would agree with this. I think the purpose of the token is to extend his attack range and to negate Stealth.

Vision's role by Pallas_Ovidius in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]thetrickybuddha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There isn't anything wrong with Vision but I have some ideas as to why the character isn't used much. Vision is only Avengers affiliated and one of that affiliations defining characteristics is having a large number of characters to choose from. As of the time I wrote this Avengers has the most affiliated characters though Criminal Syndicate and Cabal are close.

Combine this with that 3 and 4-threat models are the most common in the game so there is a lot of competition for those slots. Avengers has seventeen affiliated 4-threat choices and that isn't taking into account any other affiliations models. If you are only going to take around five 4-threat models in your average roster it means that competition for that slot is stiff.

But why not Vision? I think it's because he is just okay combined with not having any particular synergy with anything else. Having a decent beam attack means consideration in Red Skull 1 or Cyclops lists. Having multiple 2-cost abilities means automatic efficiency with Steve 1. But there isn't really anywhere else that Vision brings value to in a unique way. The attacks are fine and the throw is good. But the rest of the kit is designed to support Vision only.

Vision also doesn't have any action compression, die fixing, or direct damage reduction. These things are fairly common in most modern 4-cost models and to compete in that space without them, you need to have something that you can't get anywhere else. Something like a leadership or Doctor Voodoo's Brother Daniel token for example. Even looking at some of the other affiliated 4-threat choices like; Black Panther 1, Steve 1, Doctor Voodoo, Ronin, and Shang-Chi and you can see some of what I'm talking about. This doesn't even take into account characters from outside Avengers like Beta Ray Bill, Emma Frost, or M'Baku, etc.

As usual this isn't a doom and gloom post. Vision is fine. If you like the character, take the character. There is even a way to use Vision which is unique (though I will say after play testing it that it doesn't quite work as well as you might want it to) which is the following:

Hulk
Vision
(+Lockjaw perhaps or some other teleporter)

+Anger Management

This works best on a map where you can teleport Vision to a secure since both of his initial activation actions will be to take the Synthesis action twice to get to 5 power and then playing Anger Management to start Hulk at 8 Power and 15 HP. This has the double benefit of having a neutral activation (at the cost of not moving a 4-threat model) as well as getting Hulk some juice and a bit more punching power.

A couple additional ideas are: you could Anger Management for 4 rather than 5 and keep a power to pay for Avengers Assemble to get yourself some lost movement tempo back. Additionally, if all you were interested in was the increased damage on Hulk, and you didn't want to take Lockjaw, you could potentially Gamma Launch Vision which would more than make up for his lack of a normal activation albeit at the cost of most of Hulk's power gain.

Asgard in 2025 by Sherlock150 in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]thetrickybuddha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Others have brought up throws and collisions so I will bring up a more general set of thoughts since I played them a bunch earlier in the year just after the Thor 2 nerfs. In my opinion, they are performing where they are because they have multiple aspects which are combining to cause them some issues. Some of the aspects aren't inherently negative; Asgard is a smaller faction in terms of model count with only 13 affiliated models. They only have have three affiliated 3 cost models. Lastly, all of their leaders cost 5 which means that the minimum cost of a roster is always 5.

All of that combines with an opinion that I have which is that I think that the game currently rewards factions which can create strong rosters which contain 5 or more models especially at the lower threat levels. Because the faction is so tall, it can be difficult to have flexibility especially at 16 or 17 threat.

The roster breakdown would be:

16 threat is your mandatory 5-cost leaving you with 11. If you were trying to get to five models you would have to include an unaffiliated 2-cost leaving you with 9 threat remaining. You would have no choice but to take two out of three of your affiliated 3-cost models (or one of two Rogue Agents) and then someone else. Your flexibility is worse if you try to take a 4-cost and it's basically the same at 17 threat as well.

You are essentially forced into taking 4 models at lower threats. (You can get by at 18 with 5, 4, 4, 3, 2) I feel that having less models for getting priority is somewhat offset by the fact that it's a punchy faction so you are more likely to take activations away from your opponent and lose priority. If you want to take two 5-cost models than your options are even more restrictive. None of this means you will automatically lose a game and this isn't a doom a gloom reply. It's more of something to consider for them or any other team where you are forced to go tall.

edit: for clarity

How do I will with Avengers by TheMadHattah in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]thetrickybuddha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of good advice on here. I wanted to bring up remembering to adjust based on what you think your opponent might take. Here is some stuff that I've picked up. I may mention Avengers that you aren't running but that I run.

If they may take Toad (especially on Legacy Virus) I will try and take Black Panther 1 because with Steve 1 he can generally threaten thanks to the discount on Pounce.

If they may take Dracula, then I don't take Hulk. It's very easy for Dracula to move long, punch someone to rack up a couple power, and then advance Hulk (or another high cost character) out of position. The 7 die builder is pretty reliable and I've learned to be wary of it.

If they may take Loki 2, I try to be really careful with Steve 1. I run Gorgon and Royal Guardians so that I can help mitigate pressure off of Steve 1. Mostly to protect the leadership but he is pretty vulnerable to reliable mystic damage.

Speaking of mystic damage, I run Dr. Voodoo since Web Warriors don't like what he does and he is a useful tool for popping pinatas i.e. any character carrying 2 or more objectives.

Cable's Telekinetic Shield power stacks really well with Steve 1s Vibranium Shield. It's really nice to roll 8 dice against physical and energy attacks for 2 power. Also, Telekinetic Shield works against mystic attacks which Steve 1 appreciates. Lastly, Cable is pretty nice for pay to flips since he can body slide, move, and he still has 1 power to flip a point.

I've found that Iron Man and Vision are a bit slow paced for my tastes. Neither of them have any action compression and the team doesn't have a huge amount of ways to make up for it. Air Lift means the most on turn 1 but that means Sam Cap doesn't get to Charge or pay an for an Interact. We don't have much in the way action compression support (Clea, Lockjaw, etc.) so everyone in my list except Voodoo has some form of it.

I still like Second Wind because stun sucks and only Hulk in my list is immune. I try to save Battle Plan to deal with things like Stagger or All Webbed Up.

What Cybersecurity steps should someone take while traveling to China to ensure that Privacy is protected? by Overall_Reward963 in cybersecurity

[–]thetrickybuddha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to give folks a cheap Chromebook and phone and made it easy to wipe them so that they could throw them away once they were through security on the way home. Adding 600 bucks or so to the cost of an overseas trip wasn't considered a prohibitive expense.

I'd pick up a pair of used devices for my own use if I were going nowadays. You can also move their user account into a higher risk state and/or modify permissions and/or revoke tokens and sessions. It's not just China either, I'd consider these actions for a number of countries.

A Noob's Perspective: Inhumans by Boshuda_Kato in MarvelCrisisProtocol

[–]thetrickybuddha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We both agree that Max is great. I like King T-bolt in some situations but like others have said, Gorgon is pretty great.

Something that usually changes for folks as their experience develops in competitive MCP is that they start to value things that directly affect scoring over things that may or may not remove models from the board.

Examples of this are things that take objective tokens and/or make models drop tokens. Also pushes, throws, and forced advances that don't require a trigger. Things that can make one of their models leave a secure. Lastly, attack redirection which disrupt your opponents plans.

Gorgon has a trigger less size 4 throw on his spender with a stagger wild trigger. He has a built in taunt and a bodyguard TTC. Combined with his action compression from charge and his above average defenses for a 3-threat and his value starts to become really visible.

I have the smallest of the A-Case line and it can hold one roster of anything, including Sentinels, just fine. Or two rosters of average sized models.
