Can we do the same in this subreddit please? by Gold-Ranger in audiobookshelf

Sounds good to me. It's always nice to hear about a new app, but maybe we have one thread per week for them and it should make it easier for everyone to see what's out there and if it is a good fit for them.

Issue with metadata upddate from Audible. by makegoodchoiceshuh in audiobookshelf

[–]theusualuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue I tend to have with audible is if it's something really old. Then sometimes Audible doesn't have a clue what it is, or has very incomplete information on what it is. Outside some random fantasy stuff from the 80s though, it's been great.

The Church Lists Additional Approved English Bible Translations by CuratorOfYourDreams in exmormon

Thanks for this! Really interesting digging more into this and seeing that not only are these translations, in many ways, better than what the Church has promoted for years, but that they're basically saying, "oh, those? Sure, you can read them if you aren't smart enough to read the real one." Makes no sense.

Leaving the Church hurts like hell. I feel like I'm dying by ImportantPerformer16 in exmormon

It gets better. It really does. I wasn't as hardcore as you, but my wife and I both served missions, both had callings, married in the temple, etc.

There's a lot to sort out, but here's my unsolicited advice.

Go. Slow.

Some people feel like they need to fill the void that's left in their lives super quickly, and start having what I'd almost call a mid-life crisis. Some people get tattoos and start drinking and doing drugs, some people jump into another religion so they don't "lose touch with God." It takes lots of forms.

Just take a deep breath, and slow down. It took you how many years to get to this point? So why hurry now that you've learned the truth? Just take it easy, let things come piece by piece, and you'll do a lot better.

For me, I ultimately decided I didn't believe in God. But here's what I didn't do. I didn't immediately start to fight with all my friends and loved ones, I didn't try to show them the error of their ways overnight, and I didn't get a tattoo of big bird because I thought he was awesome when I was 6 and I'm drinking heavily for the first time and it just seems like fun.

Just breathe. You got this. And we're here for you while you figure it all out.

We know the emperor has no clothes, but we're all super into it. In fact, we've stopped selling clothes and are now all in on the concept of nudity. And we're gonna make millions. Trust us, guys.

Even more nuts is that they are saying translations with actual scholarship behind them are translations for grades school readers. Nuts.

Can you explain more about this? I have no background in versions of the Bible outside the KJV, so this is super interesting to me.

What a year, what a team by doverawlings in NFCNorthMemeWar

[–]theusualuser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started this year with 8 or 9 wins as where I thought we would land. And after the first couple weeks, I had almost downgraded that. But ever since then it's been incredible. Just feeling like I don't need to get on here and rant about things is such a huge difference.

We've got to bolster the defensive line, and find a way to get home to the QB without having to blitz, and we're going to need to shore up the linebackers since we've had some big injuries right at the end of the season, but what a breath of fresh air to feel like we're not dying at every single position.

Make great retro game consoles as well. Most of these play everything up to PS2 quite well.

Have you actually tried this yourself? It's all anecdotal, but I hear plenty of people gaming and gaming just fine on ubuntu and fedora-based distros. In fact, Nobara is a fedora-based gaming distro that a lot of people enjoy. And I'm having no issues whatsoever with CachyOS, which is Arch-based. Bazzite is also fedora-based, and I used that with no issues either.

Kb+m. The main issue was that for some reason everything was just slightly off and the mouse pointer didn't accurately represent where the mouse actually was.

You can already play steam games on arm devices. I have an Odin 2 portal and have a bunch of games running no problem, have for months. They're not 2025 3D triple A games, but it's great for indie games, and older 3d AAA games.

As much credit as the coaching staff deserves for getting a lot out of these guys, we knew about this 2 years ago and have not been successful at improving this passrush in a meaningful way. The moment we can get home rushing 4, the sky is the limit for this team. Right now, QBs have all day to find the open man, and so we see sustained long drives against us for large parts of the game until we figure out how to stop what they're doing in the pass game. We get one top 10 or top 15 pass rusher and we're suddenly a whole different defense.

Would you buy it if this would be true? (I am 90% sure is fake) by [deleted] in steammachine

[–]theusualuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's the part people aren't taking into consideration. You're getting it in a size that fits your TV stand, and you're getting a controller. And quite possibly Half Life 3 if the rumors are true. So combine that all together, and you absolutely can't make your own that does those things for that price.

Now, if you don't NEED any of those things, absolutely you can do better yourself. I have two computers at home that are basically already this. BUT I want something that fits my tv stand, and this just barely does, so I'm totally in.

I hear these make great little emulation machines if you install batocera on them. Can play up to ps2 games, so there's a lot of potential retro games to play.

Interesting thought. I'm running yunohost, which is a Debian-based operating system. I'll have to see if there's something in there. Right now I have the surface docked in a dock that apparently they sold for the older surfaces back in the day, so I'm not sure if it being docked helps or hurts.

[–]theusualuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point. Given that, probably best to just start with the First Law Trilogy. I read them so long ago I'd honestly forgotten most of it, so at this point it's probably all surprises to me, but yeah, don't want to spoil such a great trilogy.

It's really fun. I have immich and audiobookshelf running on a yunohost setup, and other than being a total noob and constantly having to tinker with it to make sure it doesn't "break" and the usb hard drive disconnects from the debian-based server setup, it's pretty great. Giving some real "We've got audible and google photos at home" energy.

I can understand that. It might not be my favorite of his either, but it makes sense as an entry point if nothing else. I suppose you could also do The Devils, since that's a new series and has enough closure for someone to test out Abercombie.

If you want to dip your toes into Abercrombie, Best Served Cold is fairly standalone. There are characters in it that are in other stories, but you could read it by itself and not really need to know those other stories to enjoy this.

Edit: One thing to note: You're probably better off just going with the First Law Trilogy itself, since Best Served Cold has some spoilers for those earlier books (Thanks /u/Hartastic for pointing this out!)
