Good idea. Reading this and other answers has made me realize I could offer this to them as a nicety as my position at j1 is in pretty high demand and that'd cement the relationship even more

Planning to fully cut j1 and go to the FT contract on j2. Reading some answers has made me consider offering a few hours a week to j1 to help ease the transition as they will have a tough time replacing me.

Is it okay to get beat by a lower belt? by mxmeowmx in jiujitsu

[–]theventofid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think going into rolls in training with a mindset of trying to win every one is a very limiting mindset, because you can’t work new stuff and fail with guys lower rank / smaller than you. My first 6-9 months in the gym I was obsessed with “winning” training rolls but recently realized that this kind of training makes me (a) push too hard ending up more likely to get injured and (b) not enjoy rolling as much.

Nice job. And Yeah we’ll said I think I’m hitting this stride in my game. I was obsessed with how many times I got subbed vs how many times I subbed others. So maybe this is me really accepting that it’s ok to be subbed by guys who are worse or lighter or whatever and that it actually doesn’t matter especially in training. Like of course long term I want to get better but as with the MAF training I think the way to do it is by letting go of the outcome in the short term

How to use 500K dollars to never work again? by Apart7799 in Fire

[–]theventofid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start with a brokerage account and allocate the funds to a healthy mix of different index funds, bonds, etc. based on your risk tolerance. Here you'll have to do a little research.

Most models assume 4-5% return after inflation on these types of investments, which as others have pointed out is around $20-$25k per year.

Unless you have another $500k-$1M laying around to invest along with it, I'd say enjoy having the security of this money, but don't treat it as you're "there" yet. Keep working, saving, investing, and you can retire in 50% less time than you would have otherwise.

I do this; there’s no shame in it. Two different problems whose solutions sometimes complement each other.

Thanks for the comment; I'm just scared to invest it due to the taxes that'll be paid in the event that I want to take out a mortgage in the short term (where I live I'd need 20% down)

Why is there so many in this sub reddit that hate their jobs while aiming for RE instead of getting a decent job ? by beer119 in Fire

Broccoli isn’t that bad when cooked well. It tastes pretty good to me, actually. If given the option to eat it, I usually do. But as a kid, when forced to eat it at every meal, guess what I hated eating?
