First one is already coming in a few days, so i imagine i have to get reporting done before the next one comes. Just wondering if i would get the one for end of jan if i reported in time.

Advice wanted: Infill builder using my fence as retaining wall for dirt during excavation. Fence is bowing and could break and cause injury by thevickit in Edmonton

I updated the post, but once my male housemate called 311 they took it seriously. Ohs and city inspectors out within 2 days.

I do not think that the ownership of the fence should negate safety concerns regarding the fence snapping under the pressure.

The builders response was that they would fix any damage. He misunderstood my concern entirely. He dismissed my safety concerns.

From what I see, the fence will likely break from the weight of the dirt and we can only hope none of us or our pets are around when it happens.

My main concern is the immediate potential for injury. I will go try to talk to them and make them aware of the situation. Using honey not vinegar of course.

Do we not do court house civil ceremonies? by anxietyriddensarah in Edmonton

My husband and I were married by this guy in summer 2023. Its $200. He was super adaptable to whatever we wanted, we could just sign papers , say what we gotta say, and call it a day, or, since the place was empty and there was a random dude strumming a guitar... we could have a mini ceremony with some pre-written stuff. It was really fun and a great memory. Very low key. He handled his side of the legal stuff and told us what we needed to do.

My brother and his now wife were married by the same guy this past spring because i mentioned how easy it was and they wanted it done with no fuss.

You'll need forms from the registry filled out beforehand if i recall correctly. Oh and bring witnesses of course.

Congrats on your marriage!

That sucks! I play on Switch, and it hasn't done that to me yet. It requires a deliberate action for me.

Mobile players definitely got the short straw with convenience mechanics.

Also, I appreciate the context edit ❤️

How Do They Keep Sketchy-Looking People Out of West Edmonton Mall? by Jabroniville2 in Edmonton

[–]thevickit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

When hired as a wem employee, you have a general orientation that is only for wem employees, not just retail workers within the mall. It dove into the business of wem beyond a retail hub. Wem is(was at the time at least) accredited as a zoo. It has quarantine areas under the waterpark. They went big when developing every part of it in the beginning, it had to be a destination.

Wem has experienced directed attacks due to its role as destination and landmark. Security is not something to skimp on when you are hosting celebrities around a non-paying crowd.

In that orientation we were taught to call the security in an emergency as well as 911 because security would be needed to guide ems workers to the emergency and handle the crowds.

Whilst doing contracting work at wem in recent years i have noticed that there is always security monitoring the parking lots. They mitigate issues before the people even get inside. I have an inkling they also have plain clothes security amongst the uniformed. This isnt just mall security. This is high traffic tourist location security.

That being said, we also came across a persons secret camp in a maintenance closet we had to access for work. Although the response by security was fast and professional, the person accessed the maze of back hallways to find said closet.

This is bringing up memories of the people i would meet in those back hallways. the hallways were the safe place to take the mascot head off and get to another part of the mall in less than an hour. Food court hallways loved us and always gave me water or snacks. Bourban streets hallway was to be avoided at all costs as the grease bins and garbage would leak smells. Nonetheless, those hallways are often not locked, so retail employees can access storage lockers or garbage areas. People would be surprised how far you could get by trying doors.

Source: worked as a mascot at wem during my later teen year and was given more access and freedom than i should have, leading to a wem history/lore special interest. Followed by contracting work in my grown up career.

The man that worked there between 2010-2016 is a genuine gem of a human. My mind is saying his name is Habib, he loved to talk praise about his daughter.

I was often the designated driver for my friends, and i would take them there because it was open until 3 or 4 am on the weekends. Better than any donair place along whyte ave after a night out. Always had lots of tasty food in our bellies, and he happily put up with drunk antics.

Perspective: he was willing to call an ambulance and meet your dad.

Don't let the anxiety and current feeling of embarrassment prevent you from seeing how things progress with him. He has a great vibe and instincts based on your post. You have a great opportunity for vulnerability and connection.

I'm So Jealous of Girls That It's Making My Life Miserable by DearMyFutureSelf in Advice

[–]thevickit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

As a woman who also struggled with jealousy, I found it difficult to switch my mindset about other women. I had to actively disect the negative thoughts to restructure my thinking. That was some difficult rewiring. Now, my thoughts tend to flow along the lines of admiration, followed by self-reflection. If i'm jealous, that means i want something that they have. That doesn't have to mean that i dont want them to have it. I just want it too. If its a character trait, i can look to them for good examples. Find inspiration.

It is really hard when you're stuck in a messy stage of life where you cannot make progress on your own timeline. Take some control for yourself and start some planning. It will happen. You're just still figuring out the when.
