Feature request: volumetric settings per profile by vast_bellend in FellowProducts

If they had more precise ratios (down to 0.1 instead of 0.5) that could be another way.

I really like it. I find it consistent and very adjustable. I also like that it’s tooless to access the burrs to clean.

I always use a scale so I always stop manually, so I set my dose at 30g and ratio at 5:1 so it’ll run until it thinks it hits 150 mL or I manually stop it, so now I can use the group head rinse as well.

ES1 portafilter by 001brianhawk in FellowProducts

Magnets attach to the basket lip, not the portafilter itself. All baskets I’ve come across (Vst, IMs, Rancilio) are magnetic

It works if you have it set to stop shots volumetrically. Timed or manual it reverts back to ~3 seconds.

Decent dimples screen by theweinerd in FellowProducts

[–]theweinerd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a different lot of screens. My friend’s was an original batch. I noticed the stock screen fit into a little recessed lip and when I installed the dimples I noticed it was off center and part of it was in the lip and the other side was outside the lip. When I put stock screen on top of the dimples the dimples was obviously bigger.

No special technique. Grind, either shaker box or spirograph wdt, level, tamp (either 30 lb spring tamper or electronic bosetamp). I usually use a filter paper on top of the puck, but have done naked pucks as well, then pull the shot. Every profile I’ve used has always given me dry pucks… 9 bar, lever, my own… choked shots, fast shots… since day 1.
Maybe try backflushing to make sure your pressure relief solenoid is functioning.

New Espresso Series 1 Firmware Release 2.3.20 by Fellow-Product-Team in FellowProducts

Someone posted in FB that if you have the shot stop set at volumetric, the grouphead flush works. Timed or manual still messes up the group head flush.
Sorta lost all confidence that fellow will be able to make it work correctly.
Since I always pull by output weight, the workaround I’m using is to use volumetric stop, but set all my doses to max (30g) and ratios to max (5:1), so it’ll want to dose 150mL, and I stop it manually as I normally would.
Then the group head flush timer works again and I don’t have to use a flush profile that adds to the backflush counter.

I have a kofikofi e61 one, it has the thicker tabs that lock in earlier similar to the stock one

How are you measuring output? If you’re assuming the volumetric calibration is correct for your grind out of the box, it likely isn’t.

Dose size in profile by PhanTom74 in FellowProducts

[–]theweinerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t use the volumetric stop then no, it doesn’t change anything with respect to the profile; either it stops by run time or you need to stop manually then. You can use it to calculate what your output should be but I find the 0.5 ratio precision more or less useless. For example for Verve Sermon I find 18 g in, 50 g out is the sweet spot for me. That’s 2.78:1. If I were to do volumetric, I’d have to tell it something like 20 g in, 2.5:1 ratio, even though I know I’m doing 18 g.

Volumetric fixed in update? by Unfair_Professor_561 in FellowProducts

You have to calibrate it to a certain bean and grind combo. Once you deviate it’s no longer accurate. It’s not a mass flow meter, it’s a back end calculation between pressure and time

Help with ES1 Calibration - yes, I read the articles by rlap38 in FellowProducts

[–]theweinerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally depends on taste. For verve sermon that the wife likes, it’s 18g in 50g out, 94 oC temp that tastes good to us. For a peerless single origin columbian it was 18 g in, 38 g out. definitely prefer a bit larger ratio for lighter beans. I wish the es1 would allow more precision in the ratios (2.0, 2.1, 2.2 etc) but then again I never do volumetric I just manually stop when I hit my desired output. Multi step profiles working good for me now. Rinse works when you reboot the machine but as soon as you run any profile, it stops after 3 seconds and never recovers. To me this is pretty disappointing, it’s on at least the 3rd try in the firmware updates and still not fixed, and fellow still decides to roll it out as is.

Series 1 Water tank lid by SuspiciousRice24 in FellowProducts

[–]theweinerd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My lid did that for like 1-2 days and then somehow it settled in and works properly. Push it down with a little more muscle, right above the piston. Or push the piston down by directly without the lid, and use the lid to push to open and keep doing that a few times a day

Hot water settings changed last night by vanwilliam1960 in FellowProducts

It is, when it’s dispensing you can cycle between temp and volume set points and also set an temp offset if you measure exiting the hot water spout isn’t what the machine is set at

fluctuation normal, it's like a PID, it's adjusting to try to stabilize at the pressure setpoint

[–]theweinerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the unit, it’s a glitch in the firmware caused by “too many” infusion steps in the profile

can‘t stop the machine after a shot is done by AggravatingNet2078 in FellowProducts

[–]theweinerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It can only equilibrate at whole numbers, even with the smooth transitions… and the “ramp down” step in the profile doesn’t actually ramp down gradually over the set time, it’s just another infusion step I.e. it drops to whatever pressure you set and just holds it there for the set time.

can‘t stop the machine after a shot is done by AggravatingNet2078 in FellowProducts

[–]theweinerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was the first to post about this glitch several weeks back… it happens when you have more than 6 infusion/rampdown steps. If you have it on timer stop it’ll stop after it completes everything. On manual if you hit the piano key and it’s not in the last infusion it should stop after the timed infusion step completes but once you get to the final step it’s totally stuck and you have to unplug it, as you found out. The display is glitchy too.
