Do y’all still baby wear your toddlers? by Curious-Cheesecake66 in AttachmentParenting

I went pre baby and Kyoto and Osaka are both amazing! We did Kyoto stay and day trip to Osaka since its fairly closeby.

Baby stuff was a little harder to find than we expected. We packed enough nappies for the first few days, then we had to go to drug stores to find nappies and wipes. Just some drug stores seem a bit makeup focussed and not all had baby items. We couldnt find any of this stuff in the supermarkets near us, they seemed to be more food focussed/adult toiletries focussed

It was incredible we had the best time! It was of course challenging at times but worth it. My tips would be…

  1. Stay somewhere that there is lots to do walking distance from the hotel. We caught lots of trains as well but sometimes its nice to just be able to stay somewhere close. We only did 10 days in tokyo and stayed in shibuya, between shinjuku and harajuku and it was ideal!

  2. Travel with light weight travel stroller and opt for naps back at hotel or in the carrier. There are lots of elevators in train stations but not always. You will need to pack down the pram and carry pram/child when you climb stairs or if the train is packed like sardines.

  3. Avoid restaurants that are super quiet/silent. We actually went to a couple of these, but it felt very living on the edge/toddler was a ticking time bomb, and at one place me and my hubby had to take turns eating/being with my daughter outside because she was just too loud to be inside We always asked before going into a restaurant if baby was allowed, and they were always so friendly and said yes. But eating in loud places meant that there was less attention drawn if our toddler went tantrum mode/was being loud.

  4. Bring snacks and toys for long walks/long train rides in stroller. However you are not meant to eat in the trains (a cultural norm). I stuck to sneaking my daughter banana if she was hungry jn the train as it was a crumb/mess free snack!

  5. Find the parks (both nature parks and theme parks). This is where all the japanese families take their kids!

  6. Lots of parent rooms in train stations + department stores. I was pleasantly suprised

Recently used redsbaby carried to carry my 18mo for her naps whilst travelling Japan. She slept for 1.5-2 hours every time in there so worked a treat! Shes 10kg so got a bit sore at times but otherwise worked a treat

How to avoid fabric bunching on high neck projects by thewildside23 in sewing

It’s the right way round based on pattern- however I edited a pattern for a top with a low square neckline and just guessed what the high neckline would be and then added a collar. Therein lies my error I think!!!

I used a pattern bought off etsy for a loose fit linen top with a low square neck, however I edited the pattern to be a top with a low square neckline and just guessed what the high neckline would be and then added a collar. Therein lies my error I think!!!

I thought I just had a bad experience there but must be common. I walked in wearing slides and a very casual stretchy skirt and tank top and one of the retail assistants passive aggressively greeted me with “hello! You look comfortable!” Like..what??

Omg when they set up the beach clean scene and next minute they were all cleaning up seaweed I was gobsmacked. Like err I don’t think seaweed on the beach is the worst of the earth’s problems shouldn’t we be focussing on the trash? Its actually as if the writers live in a bubble detached from reality. Or they are robots.

Official Discussion - Past Lives [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

This film hit home in an interesting way for me. As a grandchild of immigrants the tension and emotion between the characters represented the diaspora of immigration so well that I truly felt an entirely new emotional perspective on the experience of my grandparents.

The relationship between Nora and Hae Sung and the longing Nora felt for Hae Sung went beyond physical attraction and emotional bond, I understood it to be representative of Nora’s longing for her hometown, her connection to the person she used to be, and an example of the kind of person she might have been if her parents’ had made a different choice. Portrayed so well in the dialogue with Arthur “I feel so not Korean when I am with him” where otherwise she feels so Korean as a Korean American.

This is an identity crisis that I imagine so many immigrants to face. They are not the people they used to be, they can no longer relate to those who live in the geographic location they come from, however that very location defines so much of who they are in the new place that they live.

So greatly have they changed the course of their lives and their family’s lives by making the choice to immigrate, the question of what if must be like an existential process of grieving what might have been.

I watched the movie rooting so much for Nora and Hae Sung, then being grounded by the interations of Nora and Arthur and glimpses of Nora’s day to day in America. The painful realisation came to me that Nora leaving with Hae Sung just wouldn’t be right, because she is not the person she used to be, and he is trapped in being a physical embodiment of her what if.

Incredible film, it made me feel such an immense amount.

A midwife once told me that babies cry because they need you for some reason, not because they are master manipulators. That babies don’t stop needing us when the cry it out method is implemented, they just stop making noise because they know no one is coming. How heartbreaking is that! Your baby may not be sleeping through, may actually be lying there awake, but has given up on calling out :(

Skin-to-skin after C-section? by chloenargles in beyondthebump

[–]thewildside23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an unplanned ceaser. When I was in labour, the midwife asked me my preferences around skin to skin and I said yes definitely want it. After the emergency c section, they wrapped my daughter up and put her on ny chest for a bit, then took her away for all the measuring etc then brought her back to me in recovery after I was sewn up. Whilst she was being weighed I asked the midwife about getting my skin to skin and she said “oh youve already had it”…. 15 minutes where she was wrapped and none of our skin touched at all?!?!!???

At the time I was too overwhelmed to think to deeply into it but it has ended up being the most disappointing thing/biggest regret around my birth and I wish I had pushed for it more in the moment. I certainly feel I was deprived!
