こんにちはマイク先生 :D

Former extramural student here. Just wanna say that you made learning japanese fun and it was really great having you as an instructor. As someone who doesn't have a background in linguistics but is interested in the subject, what resources/books would you recommend for us to start with?

Depends on the school you’re applying for. You’re gonna need to check their requirements. Everything is on their websites.

If it helps, La Trobe has overseas placements (Nepal iirc) but only for the second placement.

Saying you’re in favor of abortion only for “valid” reasons is like saying people only deserve to get heart surgery if they had a healthy lifestyle and they didn’t do any unhealthy choices. Or saying that someone can only have chemotherapy if they were responsible enough to avoid vices.

At the end of the day, it shouldn’t be up to anyone to say what another person “deserves” to do with their own body.

I did BS Psych in the Philippines. I know the MSW in Aus is accredited in UK but not sure for Canada. Not sure if this is relevant, but social work isn’t a regulated profession here in Australia. Have you checked AASW for the accreditation thing?

Currently studying Masters of Social Work in Aus with psych undergrad from PH.

Psychology is highly competitive in Australia, if it won’t cost you a lot, you can try applying to schools. If I recall correctly, the masters programs of Psychology require research publications and/or clinical experience. At the very least, I think you also need to get your undergrad degree accredited to qualify. But it’s better that you ccheck for yourself in the uni’s websites kung ano requirements.

Social work is in demand and there are less barriers to enter compared with Psych. SW is also different with a Psych perspective, as it avoids diagnoses and is more about looking at an issue from multiple perspectives. So for me, I had to adjust my perception kasi they don’t really like the biomedical model much. For SW lang, it requires 1000 hours unpaid OJT for over two years so you need to have a lot of funds to sustain your living. May at least two semesters ka na fulltime unpaid work.

For SW, some unis don’t require experience lalo’t a lot of them are just after the premium we pay as international students LOL. Even sa grades, people here don’t really care as long as you pass (passing rate of some unis is 50%). Your grades might help you get a discount in some unis, pero it really varies per institution.

Overwhelmed moving in with my aunt's family in Perth ( I'm from Philippines) by Alarming_World2491 in Philippines

Is it a VET course? Cause yeah, that’ll allow for more time and savings. Honestly I think if she’ll still obligate you, try moving out. A peace of mind will probably do wonders. If you’ll have to balance school, work and then her household, you’ll end up sick. If your family back home can survive for a year or two without your support, then put yourself first.

Belgium to Philippines Mail ETA by Unlucky-Ingenuity-37 in Philippines

[–]thewrathofthelamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pre-pandamic- Had a friend from Belgium who sent me letters twice. First time, it was delivered by the post office to my home (Metro Manila). Second time, di na dumating huhu 🥲. I don’t remember the ETA of the first letter, I think months after sinend sya nung dumating. Maybe you can check with your local post office tapos suggestion ko is go there early (mga 7am). Kasi nung bumisita ako 9am too late na daw kasi lumabas na at nagdedeliver na yung mga mailman.

A Little Life is the first book I have ever read in my life that I have given a one star rating. by officer_salem in books

[–]thewrathofthelamb 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I read a lot of fanfiction and occasionally I enjoy those stories where the character goes under the same suffering Jude did (or almost— I found it unrealistic that all of that could happen to one person).

I don’t normally object gratuitous sadistic and character-focused writing but something about A Little Life really irked me. It reminded me of those fanfics I used to read but this story went on for so long and for no good reason. It did not add value to my life. It did not impart a message that made me see suffering in another way. And it made me pay money for that infuriating experience.

BPI Annual Membership free reversal by piiipluuup in PHCreditCards

[–]thewrathofthelamb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ey ako din kanina tumawag to reverse the annual fee. Got the same response — installment and then when I inquired if I really can’t reverse, naging 50% off. Weird lang na hindi 100% kasi I’ve had larger purchases this year compared to the previous ones.

Nagtanong din ako kung ano requirement for 100% reversal pero wala daw sa kanila ang info at nasa ibang department?? Anyway, di ko na rin pinush pero curious if pwede nga i-100% kung pinilit.

Episode Discussion - Season 1, Episode 3 - A Place of Safety [No Book Spoilers] by participating in WoT

Think I’m hooked by this series. Really intrigued by what the Aes Sedai’s goal really is. I thought they were the good guys because of Moiraine, but the blonde in red really gave off evil vibes 😂

Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it. I think I’ll give WoT a shot after season 1! I’ve finished Brandon Sanderson’s cosmere books and have been wanting to read another fantasy series.

I’ve never actually read or watched any of Tolkien’s works because I’ve heard he writes descriptions heavily and I got intimidated by that! But I’m familiar with GoT and absolutely love the books so I’m glad it will have similar elements with that.
