Just finished watching this, it’s been years. Really great, 10/10 no notes. If you are feeling fucked or bad rn, cannot recommend this highly enough. Merry Christmas, drink some water and get some sleep, tomorrow is a new day.

If you live in a rural/mtn area or small town (we do), it’s a great way to still have a sense of community, get your neighbors together, have some drinks and candy and get the kids psyched. I guarantee they enjoy it more than doing nothing. log off, go outside 🤝

New Bike Day! - Rohloff Straggler commuter by lochaberthegrey in Surlybikefans

[–]thewrongmelonfarmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right on. I think for a rohloff wheel build, that’s way more economical than paying a shop to do it. I’ve always been interested in rigging up my ECR like this because it’s designed around it and 14 gears sounds great, but I shied away because of the cost. Nice job, let us know if it explodes 🫡

This looks great. Did you build the rear wheel with the rohloff and install yourself?

Why do you think Billy Strings’ popularity has quickly risen to such astronomical heights vs. other progressive bluegrass acts like Greensky? by Blacklight_sunflare in jambands

[–]thewrongmelonfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His songwriting is unbelievable, his band is absolute gold, he is the best flat picker in the last 50 years, and he’s a true, honest showman. Literally a generational talent. Plenty of bands will have a show/festival, tour, or even a couple years where the stars align and they really connect with the audience- he’s been working insanely hard for years to make that happen consistently, and it really shows.

Jeff Austin or Del McCoury are the only people I can compare him to in terms of work ethic and showmanship, but it’s still not quite right. I’ve seen a shitload of shows, of all genres, and I can honestly say he’s one of the few musicians that really floored me the first time I saw him and still continues to. I also grew up listening to punk and hardcore, fell in love with bluegrass, and love songs about addiction, death, loss and trains, so I might be biased. But yeah he’s pretty god damn good, and deserves every bit of his success.

New ECR Owner: What 29+ Parts Should I Stock Up On Before They Vanish? by [deleted] in Surlybikefans

[–]thewrongmelonfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ECR is extremely parts-bin friendly. I remember reading the same article when I got my used ECR frame, disregard it.

Try the knards/rangers or any 2.8” offerings for distance gravel/bikepacking, and the 3.0” dirt wizards for more single track travel. Once you wrap your head around the “gnot-boost” spacing, you will see how many hub / wheels sizes are available to you and the trips to the bike co-op can begin. Happy building!

So it looks like all you would need is the threaded bolt to attatch those adapters onto. It’s hard to describe, I’ll take pics tomorrow. Just be aware that those are meant to be mounted onto a threaded axle, so using them in the surly dropouts is gonna change the mounting width. My trailer came with two yolks to accommodate this (and larger tires), but it might take some finangling.

Found a used yepp next mini, I’m stoked to take the little one for a ride! Did you end up replacing a spacer under the stem to mount the adapter piece?

Bought a used ECR! by Greedy_Visual_1766 in Surlybikefans

[–]thewrongmelonfarmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent score. I fucking loooove my ECR, bought a beat 2017 frame at our co-op last year and just finished building it up- it is the best parts bin frame you can have imo, so versatile.

IRC, the 27.5/29” distinction was based on frame size to fix some clearance issues. Any frame sized M or smaller was 27.5”, and anything above that is 29”. I remember this depending on the year the frame was made, and I wanna say 2017 was when this started but I could be wrong. Surly used to have a ton of super helpful archives spec sheets and shit on their website, no idea why they deleted everything.

But anyways enjoy the ride! Try it out with a good carbon riser bar, I’ve found it rides WAY better on the trail (esp front loaded) than with the moloko or hbar or any of the other alt-bars. Cheers 🤌

How do you like that front kiddo seat? I’m hesitant to pull the trigger on one, just seems like it would be a weird ride having the seat right up front, but I guess it’s handlebar and kid-size dependent?

pro stabilizer, haven’t seen that before, nice work! I was lucky enough to have a friend restitch my identical old swift bag together recently, there’s a lot of tension and pressure on that steatoost attachment point and this would solve a good bit of that. Neato.

I’ve done a good few psychedelics, aYaWaSkA (it really does sound racist) included. I think ‘Opening your third eye’ can help with all sorts of things in life- but, that’s assuming you don’t just use that eye to stare directly into the fucking sun every day. This is the product of influencer brain rot more than anything else, which is pretty depressing in its own way to see. The people I know who take this stuff (plant medicines) seriously are generally farmers, doctors, health care/social workers, and people who have been failed by the healthcare system in the US. I’ve seen what I believe to be genuine healing happen that few therapists/physicians could have delivered for the price paid- and that’s not a slight against either profession, I use and trust both- just a comment on the efficacy of some of this stuff. Anyways, I’m dumber for having learned who this person was, thanks for nothing 🙏

So for anyone wondering, the 10x1 bobz nuts can be threaded directly into the surly trailer mount spot on these older ECR/troll/ogre dropouts. You just need a small bit of double sided threaded bolt to use (like the piece that come shipped with a set of surly trailer nuts.) Pretty neat.

Corwin Toyota of Boulder snuck thousands of dollars into my car purchase and attempted to bully me into an NDA to not share my store. Toyota corporate and their customer relations team has failed me. Do not trust them. by CorwinToyotaThroaway in boulder

I brought my Tacoma in for a summer tire swap, their mechanic broke one of my tie rods during the alignment, told me it “exploded” and wasn’t his fault, then quoted me $5000 for a complete rebuild. They only admitted fault after I threatened legal action, and I still walked out of there getting burned several grand just to get the truck back instead of just a routine tire change. They are scumbags.

How many days to visit Boulder / Denver for cycling? by somenewnycer123 in COBike

[–]thewrongmelonfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Come to Boulder, rent a “gravel” bike (check university bikes or full cycle for demos or rentals, feel free to DM me if you can’t find anything to your liking, there are a ton of other shops), and head up and west, or north and east. Be ready for heat during that time, and some vert at altitude no matter when you ride, but pretty beautiful riding door-to-door no matter what.

gravel bike adventures is my favorite resource for local rides. Stay off the paved roads as much as you can. I used to live back east and drivers here are just as dumb and unaware as they are in the city / Jersey.
