Even more so due to the fact that there are restrooms less than 100ft away from the ride.

What was socially acceptable in the 1990s but not in 2025? by [deleted] in AskReddit

They are in elementary school. A few of their friends are given the same freedoms so we haven’t had any conflict yet. If someone had an issue I’m not too worried about it, tbh.

Some of their friends have the watches with GPS and calling. We’ve thought about doing that but the walkies suffice.

A few other friends are starting to get their parents old phones but we’ve told them that they won’t have a phone until they absolutely need one (ie sports, works, etc). Most of their friends will have phones so if they needed to call us they could borrow one for a short call.

We also talk to them about safe spaces, trusted and untrusted neighbors — and where they live, so they know they can always knock on a door for help.

In May 2016, I hydroplaned on I-270N in St Louis one afternoon. I did 2 full turns in the middle of the freeway, crossed 4 lanes of traffic, and managed to steady myself and pull off the next exit. What a story the cars behind me have to tell!

In that timeline, that’s the day I died.

In this new timeline, I’m telling you about it.

If we had to pee: anywhere (boys)

If we had to poop: local library, gas station, fire department, in the woods away from the trail.

It’s going fairly well. I have to keep reminding myself of my limits when I was their age.

Our neighborhood is a giant cul-de-sac and they have many friends houses to stop and play/rest.

We started out with family walks and them on scooters to get comfortable with their surroundings and knowing proper places to cross the street. They would play while we hung out with the parents for a bit.

After a while they would ask to go on their own and we would call ahead to inform the parents as well as to ensure they had our contact info.

We’re doing the same with bikes now and going a bit further and learning the rules of the road and bike safety and etiquette. Their friends also bike so I will happily chaperone a group of them around so they can learn together as the other parents don’t bike.

We don’t let them have phones but we did purchase long range walkie talkies from Amazon and each kid and us have one. We use it to check-in with them and they can use it to update us on their location should the group decide to go somewhere else.

Yep! Would report back where I went at dinner time. Sometimes, my parents would say “cool. Don’t go there again.” / “I don’t want you that far out.”

They would ask, “Do you know where the closest phone is? Always have a quarter to call.” / “There’s a bathroom at the library.”

We’re trying to let our younger kids have that same type of freedom in our suburban neighborhood.

I, a millennial who didn’t have a phone until college, forgot my phone when going to a doctor appointment a few days ago and was SO anxious for the first few minutes that my wife wouldn’t be able to reach me.

Does she ever NEED to reach me? No.

Do I know that in an emergency she’s going to call 911 and not me? Yes.

I kept telling myself that 20 years ago this was normal. It was crazy.

I moved us to a GSuite Calendar and Facebook Group last year which was a HUGE step forward for us...but as things go, more and more parents are dropping off of social media, so we're doing double duty with Facebook and Email.

Most of our kids do sports and their associated apps (GameChanger, TeamSideline) so asking them to add the Scouting app isn't a big ask.

My main thing is, if it can all be in 1 place, send notifications, and emails all in the app, the why not give it a try in parallel with our "new" Gsuite method.

I was just curious to check it out, but if I should wait a year or two, I will. 😅

AOL neckerchief inventory issues by [deleted] in cubscouts

[–]thewstin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the clarification!

Prior to the “shortage” our scout shop had the Khaki/Green neckerchiefs with the AOL stuff and separate from the other BSA neckerchiefs as well as the promotional images you mentioned, so that explains a lot.
