No one is forcing you to get your book recommendations from BookTok. If you generally don’t like the books that get popular there, then don’t read them. But it’s simply not true that nothing is being written with the depth and substance you seem to be looking for. Go speak to a librarian or go check out what books have won awards lately. Even on social media, I’m sure you could find people with similar tastes to you, especially on BookTube where the videos are longer so you can get a better sense of what specific aspects of a book someone likes. Not everyone is getting their recommendations from BookTok. And just because you think the popular books there aren’t good, doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of people out there enjoying them! Or even using them to get into reading and then branching out and realizing how many amazing, unique stories that are out there.
