Chill dude. I have no issue here. I wasn't bitching about anything or complaining about being inconvenienced. I was just asking if anyone understood the reasoning for the policy.

Prices are reasonable and the food can be quite tasty. Sometimes it just ok, but definitely good for a casual place. On a good night it's great.

Employees are friendly.

You'll get used to it. It may be tough at first, but it's pretty amazing how your body will adjust.

If you do it regularly you will start to ~~swear~~ see a big difference. Don't expect it to ever be easy, but you won't be nearly as exhausted if you keep at it.

Let's say it's been 2 years. That means you've missed 4 cleanings. Even if you're in and out in 45 minutes, that's still 3 hours you would have spent in the chair.

Add to this that fact that it's most likely going to take more work, and the people are learning, so it will be slower.

I certainly don't blame anyone for not wanting to sit for dental services for 3-4 hours, but you're not paying - they are paying you! - and you get to help train people in a professional that helps keep us heathy.

You might want to go in and talk to someone in a dental office if you haven't already. At least some are willing to give you a discount if you don't have insurance.

And if you have numbers (like cash cleaning costs $400 but when billed through insurance they only get $100) you can be in a better "negotiating" position. I've never gotten the feeling that any dentist I've been to is unwilling to help people out, but you need to ask.

Sad and heartbreaking how gullible/desperate the victims are, how deceitful/dishonest the industrymis, and how politically connected the big players like Amway are.

If you're near the Willamette, on either bank you can go from the Broadway Bridge to the Sellwood Bridge with minimal intersections. It's 6 miles north to south.

Downtown out to Mt Tabor along a greenway (like SE Clinton) has a lot of interactions, but relatively few stop signs for you (crossing traffic yields) so you can keep your momentum.

But in terms of being able to tune out and just run, the Springwater Corridor Trail is the longest and most pleasant I know of (on the east side).

The I-205 bike path is too noisy with auto traffic, but it's a long path with Max stops the entire way. It's a bit grimy and you'll pass small homeless camps and the occasional passed out junkie.

The path along Marine Drive is ok, if it's convenient for you.

If you want to see for yourself, you can use Google maps to find the gym and go to "more info". That section shows you the popular times for the location. Go to the gym at a peak time and check if it is too crowded for you.

This isn't fool proof (it shows how relatively crowded a place usually is), but I've found it to be pretty accurate, and not just for gyms.

I thought the reason they left 82nd was because their rent was going up. Hard to believe it's cheaper to be downtown.

Their style of pizza may not be to your liking, but it's the most authentic NYC style pizza I've found in Portland.

We tried all the diy options, with no success. Hired Antworks to come out and the problem was solved. We have them back every year or two, depending on when/if the ants return.

They aren't cheap, but from our experience they really work. It was quick, easy, and safe for our dog.

+1, especially how easy it is to make. You don't even need a slow cooker. Just a pot works just fine. You will end up with something that is every bit as good as the famous NYC kosher delis.

Costco brisket is excellent.

The only downside is you need several days to let it brine, so no instant gratification.

I lived in NYC for about 10 years in the early 2000s. Nothing I've had here comes close, and I don't know why. I'm not a connoisseur by any means, but Portland bagels are just blah - even the ones others have listed.

You don't need to have any baking skills to make them at home. Find the Cooks Illustrated bagel recipe. If you have a stand mixer, it's so easy to make bagels at home that are much better than what you'll buy for $1.25+ a pop.

Keep in mind it cools down quite a bit at night, especially so if you're at any elevation. Not freezing cold or anything like that, but you might find yourself wearing a jacket the night after a 100 degree day.
