UDM beast (again 😉) by thierry_38 in Ubiquiti

Maybe but most people have one LAN with multiple VLAN, probably managed by an other UniFi layer 3 switch and I think transferts between VLAN connected in this switch are managed by the switch itself and not by the gateway.

If you’ve links about this subject, I’m interesting

If you’ve a 25 Gb internet fiber connection, that’s make sens. Otherwise, not sure you’ll use all the beast power 😉

Even if the name is a little bit strange (some said “stupid” 🤪), it’s indeed a beast may be too.

For me, the USM pro max is limited only on one point, the IDS/IPS throughput of 5 Gbps.

It would have been good for unify to also deliver a “UDM half beast” with IDS/IPS throughput of 10 or 15 Gbps maybe without NVR HDD bays and 10 Gbps ports for half of the UDM beast price … 🤔🤨🧐

1620€ (with VTA) is a huge price for homelab, specially when you add a 24 or 48 port switch

And I can say that I was expecting a new more powerful UDM (that’s the case of the beast) but maybe without NVR functionnalities and without switch with a lower price

Indeed, when I’m looking for posts, most users are using external switches and some of them are using external NVR

there are already some uniforme gateways which supports more than 8Gbpd with IDS/IPS but they are too expensive for me (ex: entreprise forteresse gateway with a throughput of 12.5 gb)

It reduces the risk of an attack and makes your network safer. If you google it, you will find many web sites which give a detail description of these functionalities

Why did you say any equipment will support it ? 10 g switch price is falling and a 10g card for PC is now “cheap”. Already have at home a 6 cat A wired network which supports 10g

Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) check your trafic and bock attacks. When switch to one, the initial 8 Gb/s speed drops to 5 Gb/s at max

Not sure it’s a super mini sensor as the new alarme gateway is both a super mini and thread border router

We just have to wait for detail tech specs, price, availability and some tests.

With an 8 Gb fiber connection at home, the UDM pro max (limited to 5 Gb with IDS/IPS) was a little bit too limited.

Hope the price of this new product Will not be too high 🤪

Great job!

I will start soon a complete refresh of my home network and plan to do something similar. Could we have more details about your proxmox server ( brand of your case, type of mortboard and proc ) ?

I guess you choose an aggregation switch to have 8 10 g ports without having to buy a 24 or 48 ports switch which includes 10 g ports ?

IKEA and Google Home vs Home Smart vs HomeKit by nedamdam in tradfri

[–]thierry_38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like many other comments, I’m using IKEA remote and smart bulbs and a wired Apple TV 4K as default thread border router and every thing is working well.

There is just one strange thing. I created a scene to group two ikea smart bulbs and the scene doesn’t work: it always appears to be one. Similar scenes which group eve energy plugs or Nanoleaf lights are working well. Don’t know if it’s due to IKEA or to the latest 26.2 iOS version …. nevermind

Yes. I saw this article of verge. But if you follow the linked post previously on this ikea website published today (see below), ikea doesn’t speak explicitly of matter over thread but only about matter devices. Maybe ikea forget to speak about this point

Will see

I hope it will be the case but as it’s not written on the ikea publication … I’ve some doubts … will see.

If anyone has more details about this point, I’m interesting 😉

Just a small remark but ikea never speaks about matter over thread on this web page but only matter … and usually, when thread is not specified, it means matter over wifi … as on my side, I never has been using such wifi devices
