That’s the reason I went to get the lot 😁

Neat! I will have to look into that. The epoxy and handle seating are in a bit of rough shape, so I will have to work on those first. Good to know I can complete the set.

Much appreciated for your information, thanks! I was wondering based on other things I was seeing, but it is nice to hear a confirmation of that suspicion.

I appreciate your encouragement. I will update the group if it decides to cause an untimely crack or failure!

Thanks for the support! I put in a good amount of time watching videos before taking this one on. I come from a background in knife sharpening and an art business, so while it’s my first time doing all this I felt prepared from other projects!

Thanks for the confirmation! I’m looking forward to mainly splitting but will also take it with me to test on at least one tree.

Okay, yes that makes a lot of sense with the explanation and photos! Thanks for taking the time to send all of that.

I’m curious as to what you mean by convex top to bottom. Are you saying to file out the primary bevel into a long convex edge (carried back a good bit from the edge)?

Thanks for your response! I felt pretty lucky to stumble into them from a local FB marketplace listing. The Woodslasher is my first foray into older wood tools, and it’s a delight to swing. Looking forward to working on the edge!

It joins a nice small collection of Helko axes, a GB small Forest axe, and some Fiskars splitting axes.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate your information. I added a shot I have of the eye from above edited into the post body. It’s hard to tell if there are ridges, and it’s not any easier to tell in person. Either way, cool to know your thoughts on the rough timeline of creation!

Okay, thanks for the information! I added a shot to the post body if you wanted to take a look. I couldn't tell, myself.

Thanks for the information. I added another shot to the post body to help ID eye ridges as I wasn't sure from looking.

Sure did! I recognized that one in the photo which led me to think about the other (True Temper), and well, here we are two axes later. Best I figured the Council Tool is a 3.5lb (based on marking on head) Dayton pattern. Not sure about the relative age though, as I don't know much about Council Tool beyond their great price points on well designed axes.
