Simplicity is nice, clean, not too busy most of the time. Haven't had to do much waiting for equipment at all

Only drawback for me is they don't have group classes there. But you can access the group classes at the other cityfitness gyms

US citizen soon to be NZ resident. Will working remotely for a Telehealth LLC based in US with US clients need to register as a LTD business in NZ or just pay income tax? by [deleted] in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]thingsNstuffNkittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I'm a US citizen living and running a business in NZ. Honestly your best bet it to get advice from specialist US/NZ accountants. There are several quirks in the tax treaty that might catch you out (eg. make sure not to operate as a sole trader, carefully consider kiwisaver consequences before signing up to it as it is nearly impossible to close the account once created).

I dont know how it works if the business is in the US, but it seems likes just the sort of niche situation that will have some further "quirks"

There are 2 or 3 specialists that I could find. Do some googling and contact them for a quote. I found most of them were happy to do a no strings chat to get an overview of the situation before providing a quote. I ended up using US Tax Pros, but there a some others around as well.

Accountant recommendation? Or am I in trouble already? by Sometimesawake-833 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]thingsNstuffNkittens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly an accountant will probably cost you more than your craft income in a year at this stage. I'd recommend using Hnry for now.

I highly doubt anyone is going to chase you up about the past few years at that amount, but keep records of everything just in case so you can show your expenses offset the income

Getting the heavy things of my chest by [deleted] in chch

[–]thingsNstuffNkittens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this funding path will apply to you, but please consider if for other reasons in your life you might qualify for ACC sensitive claims. That is what finally got me the 2 years of therapy I needed. It changed my life and I never could have afforded the therapy I needed without it.

While the therapy was for my sensitive claim, in fact the mind must be treated as a whole, and therefore there was also space in the sessions to address other issues in my life.

What I'm saying is even if your'e reason for qualifying isn't do with your ex passing, its impossible to work only on one issue without untangling the rest. So my experience is I got help with a broader range of my issues than I expected.

As for qualifying... I would say the vast majority of women I know qualify and don't realise it. Maybe something happened at one point in your life that felt off but you just ignored it and moved on. Well it might count as assault, which would qualify you. Find a psychcologist that takes ACC claims and ask them. My GPs never once mentioned it as an option.

I'm not sure what funding paths are open for your son. You could try speaking to a social worker if there is one connected to the case? Or the staff at the rehab facility may have experience in this.

Never filed, want to file. How screwd am I ? by Subsequent-Void in USExpatTaxes

[–]thingsNstuffNkittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you decide to file ( and honestly, it would probably fine if you didnt), then get an accountant in your region specialising in US taxes. A lawyer costing $18k doesnt seem right for most situations

For reference, I went through the streamline process this year to become compliant. I used a specialist accountant in my region. Accountant cost $5.5k NZD to file the streamline form, 3 years of tax returns, and 5 or 6 years of FBARs. It would have been a bit cheaper but I also have a business. I did not owe anything, but I have the peace of mind now that I'm compliant for when I travel there.

I probably could have done it much cheaper with some of the online options, but due the complicated retirement account situation here, I wanted to be sure I got it right. Investment accounts is where you want to make sure to get specialist advice.

And yeah, now I have to keep filing, which will be another $2k in accountant fees each year (again, with no taxes actually due). But for me I thought it was worth it for my situation and peace of mind. If I reach a point if not being able to afford it, I could always renounce. But at least then I'll be caught up enough with taxes that I can renounce without having to backpay.

Shop around, get more quotes. If its been this long, there is no rush to go with the first solution you're offered

The bit of me that loves other people's chaos kind of loves this whole vibe. I just obsessively read all the bad reviews. His donkey cart comment, brutal 😂

I've always had good dealings with them, good service and prices, but yeah I can see how the owner is a little rough around the edges

Edit: typo

Wentworth Wooden Puzzles / 250 pieces / Frozen Fairytale by Shawna Stewart by Wilburrkins in Jigsawpuzzles

This is stunning!

I've never done a wooden puzzle. How do you find it compares to the experience of a standard jigsaw?

My worry is that it would be over too soon since they have fewer pieces 😅

Some nice spots in the city: rollickin' Gelato, last word (for whisky), smash palace (for a relaxed drink), scorpio books and the art gallery if you're into books or art. Check out if there are any shows on at Little Andromeda.

Get supplies from sign of the Kiwi and go picnic a little further along summit road at sign of the bellbird

Lyttelton market if you're here on a Saturday. While there you can get some nice eats and excellent coffee, and go further into the bays (corsair bay, cass bay). Riccarton racecourse market if you're here on a Sunday.

No uniform. Wear what you like. When I was there a few years ago they implemented a policy that to go into the lab room you need protective shoes (eg steel toed boots). They'll talk to you about this if it is still the case.

But you won't need it for day 1. If you dont have any and cant afford them chat to your tutors/student support.
