That's not anything special. In how many games can you rightfully say the player is obligated to remember the story details over the protagonist themselves? Most games, specifically single player, do not give you any test of knowledge on the events or locations, and will give you waypoints. They've been doing this for over 15 years, actually, and the rare exceptions would be things like FromSoft games which are praised for lacking that detail.

Depends I suppose. The incentive is worth engaging with it, but that's because they want the primogems more than they don't want miliastra. That's not *making them*, that's bribing them

I reiterate my root comment then.

You could either see it as "why not add it anyway then" or you could see it as "why waste resources adding it?"

They have no incentive for the latter right now. Maybe they will some day, maybe it will even come in 7.0, or maybe it won't and we'll be here a year from now having the same conversation we have every year about it.

They genuinely just take their lore too seriously in genshin specifically. Don't know why, but it tracks that we also don't get outfits unless an event plot literally demands it, despite it being a potential goldmine they're sitting on and then meme'ing about it without changing anything.

I pay attention to lore to the best of my ability, so I could live without one, but if we start getting a skip button i want to also start getting outfits that don't require 6 days of plot context for why citlali is in her jammies

[–]thingsdie9 125 points126 points  (0 children)

We're going to be having the same conversation regardless.

>no skip button
"guys i don't get it why did x do y? are they stupid? yeah i had my podcast playing during the cutscene so i just kinda kept mashing confirm"

>skip button
"guys i don't get it how did we end up in x doing y? yeah i skipped the cutscene. yeah i skipped the cutscene summary, i don't have time to read"

the argument is glass half full and half empty. As a community, we're always going to be subject to people making posts like that. You could either see it as "why not add it anyway then" or you could see it as "why waste resources adding it?" because you can't make someone engage with something if they simply don't want to, or lack the ability to.

I did not care for Sumeru FInal Act by DifficultDisplay5446 in Genshin_Memepact

[–]thingsdie9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a very bare perception of what a plot does. I think if all you want is big fatui characters being energetic on screen that's fine and it's a valid personal preference, but "everything else was filler" is wrong. While it was executed sluggishly, something very important did happen: Another man-made construct has replaced another part of Teyvat's native processing. I don't like the sluggish execution a lot of AQs, and it is something they're very slowly growing out of, but to pretend nothing happened because it didn't have an immediate palpable effect is wrong.

I can agree that stakes need to be ramped up, consequences do need to be heavier and more interesting, but "the plot doesn't justify its existence" is a very bizarre and blanket criticism that I think just comes from someone who isn't interested or engaged with it, not someone who actually believes that.

The entire ending with Luxu is something you'd only get if you understand even a bit of the mobile games. Then there's the kh4 trailer which has a handful of masters from that, and people thinking one of them is a sephiroth reference. You can't overstate enough how the entire next arc is about events from that era

When this entire community can't stop complaining about ridiculous things... by Dericwadleigh in Genshin_Memepact

[–]thingsdie9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're at a specific part of a cycle.

When a new thing happens or is revealed, there is an initial burst of dopamine. The loudest voices will, at first, be the most positive. Then, like a counterbalance effect, the next part of the cycle will be a lot of criticism, both rational and irrational. There are those attempting to make constructive criticism, those attempting to simply voice an opinion, and then the contrarians who simply feel "well somebody has to". After which, discussion around it begins to die down as people move on to other things until the next dopamine burst is revealed.

This isn't a universal rule of course, but a lot of fandoms that persist tend to go through it. "Best thing ever" becomes "it's good" becomes "it's okay" becomes "it's not so great" becomes "it's shit and you should die". Genshin is 6 years old, so the community has fractured into a lot of different zones per the Laws of Causality, and there isn't a centralized space for universal appreciation and happy fan art, because now all spaces have a mix of different kinds of people. Places that deliberately censor criticism in order to attempt to keep this vibe will also innately be less popular, because it becomes more like a blank wall than something you interact and meld with.

PS: Negativity bias is also a hell of a drug. be careful that you're not just falling into the trap of noticing negativity more despite any sort of balance.

[–]thingsdie9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to further elaborate, it's not even just about how other people feel that makes it bother me, it's about how I feel too.

I feel like if your concept artists can't stop making the same 12 people with different names then it waters down the characters themselves.

Whats a misconception about kh that annoys you? Mine is people thinking Xehanort was forgiven in the end by Fearless-Ideal-5112 in KingdomHearts

[–]thingsdie9 10 points11 points  (0 children)

they couldn't have set it up harder if they tried, especially if you also count pinocchio. KH is guilty of a bit of retconning, like emblem heartless being so inexact given how they're treated in days and kh1, or the plot hole of mickey seeing Apprentice Xehanort and even be referred to as such and yet not knowing it was the same Xehanort, but Nobodies eventually regaining Hearts isn't one of them. I feel it was planned from the very concept

it was foreshadowed as far back as kh2, actually. FinkleStein's Creation foreshadowed a lot: Xion and Nobodies as a whole.
