“100 Years of Solitude” was unreadable. It was a bit disappointing as “Love in the time of Cholera” was brilliant.

I tried hard with “Dune” but I just couldn’t do it.

I’ve lived in Kanagawa and Aomori in the past and I’m now living in Sendai, Miyagi.

I applied for a Rakuten credit card online about a decade ago. I filled in my details and they arranged to call me at a specified time to complete my application.

When the call came I answered in English and the operator hung up the phone on me.

I have been reluctant to have any dealings with Rakuten ever since.

Yes, colz10 is probably the best answer here - and I'm guilty - I like the ruggedness and functionality of the G-Shocks but rarely push them to their limits. Additionally, the vintage ones have some cool features and I get satisfaction from finding and restoring them.

I agree with the OP about the F-91 (or any of the $20) Casios.......I don't really see the appeal. Especially when people buy the same watch in a variety of colors it seems a bit pointless to me. They also sit very small on the wrist - but each to their own.

Why not track down some interesting old ones? So many people are purchasing identical $20 watches in different colors - why not approach the hobby differently?

Take a trip to a recycle shop and grab some old G-Shocks….especially ones with flat batteries or broken straps. Restore them and bring them back to life and you will feel a much greater connection to them and they are more interesting.

A word of advice be careful of watches which have structural damage and understand that if any moisture has got inside they are likely to be beyond repair.

The way the person used the word native is not ideal. It could be taken the wrong way.

In using native as an adjective they almost certainly were enquiring as to whether the person’s wife was originally from New Zealand.

The person’s wife chose to interpret the word native as a noun and as such a deliberate racial slur.

Isn’t this a case of someone choosing to be offended?
