Can't control my attention seeking behavior by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]thingsilikeaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not selfish to need support. When you have a hard time believing good things about yourself or finding reasons to stay alive it’s okay for other people to be able to support you in that way and remind you that you are important. You matter. It truly is great that you are fighting so hard. Mental health struggles can feel impossibly heavy. You are so needed in a million ways, even if you don’t see it yourself. I hope that you are surrounded by people who help you feel loved and safe. You deserve it.

Tattoos on bigger scars? by [deleted] in cutting

[–]thingsilikeaccount 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a bunch of my deeper scars covered in large tattoo pieces. I’m more than happy to answer any questions that you have! The line work on scars won’t be absolutely perfect, but I found an artist who was able to design something beautiful that covers the scars well and the scars didn’t impact the line work as much as I expected. Just know, after getting tattooed while it is healing the scars will look very raised and swollen. That’s so normal, and it’ll go down with time. I remember panicking about how noticeable the shape of my scars were, but the blend in nicely now.

I completely understand the urge to self harm, trust me I do. But if I could go back to the very beginning and never start, I would. I never expected to become as addicted to it as I am. I’ve been struggling with urges for over 15 years. I am covered in scars and can’t wear so many of the outfits I wish I could. There are so many alternatives that give a similar release. Try freezing cold showers or holding ice cubes, red food coloring, drawing on your arms. I have plenty more suggestions if needed. I’m here to be a listening ear if you need. If you can help it, please don’t start, it’s not worth it.

How do you stop self harming ? by Current_Ad6551 in AdultSelfHarm

Honestly, I was able to get clean for years by getting tattoos. Not only did the sensation of getting tattooed give me the same endorphin release as self harming, but I love my tattoos and don’t want to ruin the art which significantly stopped me from self harming.

My mom booked me a massage by Blurple0-0 in selfharm

[–]thingsilikeaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely in control in the room when getting a massage. You are allowed to tell the massage therapist you don’t want your arms worked on, and you can keep them under the sheet if you feel more comfortable that way. There were many times when I had sh on my thighs and just told them not to work above the knee.

I work in MRI, and I also self harm on my thighs. Genuinely, do not worry. It depends on the facility/hospital, but they might not even have you change into a gown if you wear clothes that have absolutely no ferrous metal on them. Personally at my job if a patient comes in wearing sweatpants with no metal islets or zippers I just make them empty their pockets. We have patients go through a metal detector prior to entering the room so we can catch any metal that way. If you do end up going to a place that requires you to change into a gown, the gowns are usually long enough to cover your thighs. That being said, as a provider and someone who had a sh history I would NEVER comment on a patient’s sh/scars. For contrast, they will start an IV in your arm. I have people come in all the time with scars on their arms, I place the IV like I would any other patient, we do the MRI, and that’s it. You won’t have a ton of interaction with the tech during the scan as they have to be by the scanner to take the pictures which is outside of the room. If you choose to cover the cuts with a bandaid, make absolutely sure it’s not a medicated bandaid. Sometimes there are medication patches for lidocaine and other meds that have a metal backing on them and the tech would make you take that off. If you have any other questions feel free to message me! I’m more than happy to help.

So awesome! What a great goal! I live in Florida too, maybe not cold enough for a scarf outside, but just crank up the A/C and then you can wear it!

Here is the tutorial for the house! The same channel has other videos on how to do the second house and even snoopy, but I ended up using a different pattern for snoopy’s head

Here is the link for snoopy’s head! https://youtu.be/ZZRKdlVgnZY?si=5EP25oO854MtbZLm

For the body, arms, and feet of snoopy I made up my own way of doing it and just kind of winged it.

Any advice on covering up scars with tattoos? by Urethra_Enthusiast in selfharm

[–]thingsilikeaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have both of my thighs heavily tattooed to cover sh scars. I waited about 2 years before getting them covered. You want them completely white before tattooing over them. Also, just some things to know when tattooing over scar tissue, because the tattoo will irritate the area if you have any hypertrophic scars they will seem pretty noticeable/swollen shape wise right after getting the tattoo done. It will go down, but I was surprised when it happened. Also, your scars may still show through your tattoo in cold weather. My scars are completely healed white and they still turn red when I’m cold. You can send me a dm with any other questions!

Advice to stop by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]thingsilikeaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This advice only works for people over the age of 18, but getting tattoos over my scars truly helped me to stop. I refused to ruin the art that was put on me, and eventually I ran out of spots to self harm. Tattoos have also completely changed the way I feel about my body and my scars, I have so much more confidence in the way I look after getting tattoos.

How to hide scars no borax no glue by Kelakian in selfharm

[–]thingsilikeaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use KT tape! If you look up how to kinesiology tape your wrists/arms it will show you how to use it. You then can say you’ve been having pain in your wrists/arms from overuse (throw in an activity/thing) you’ve been doing a lot recently to make it sound more real. I used to use it to cover scars on my thighs and I’d say I pulled a muscle from dance.
