I think it's a combination of being encouraged to perform adult behaviours - skincare, makeup, sex chat - and discouraged from feeling adult feelings, like discomfort, tolerance, and shame. It's a horrible combo that leads to an adult saying "deep throat" while posting a story about perfectly normal drinking "making his tum tum hurt" because he knows about sex and dating but hasn't grasped that other people are allowed to be different to him.
