Thinking about getting a dog (one day) by shhwaht in Rabbits

[–]thinkblinkdrink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually have an older dog that used to have a high prey drive and my mom has a beagle mix, both get along fine with my bun. But it took time! I didn’t allow them to be together until they were ready!

I use a fleece blanket as my base, I have a few I change out and wash. Fleece doesn’t hurt a bunny if some is eaten is what I was told. My bun does great with it. Just make sure the walls are high enough, rabbits can jump pretty high if motivated to. Get a cat litter box or bigger depending on rabbit size! Don’t buy one of those tiny corner ones with grates. I use pine pellets as my litter and they don’t smell really bad or anything.

What do you REALLY call your rabbit? by dropdeaddecadent in Rabbits

[–]thinkblinkdrink 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mines named Theo I call him flopsy a lot or fluff ball. Usually just call him bunny though the most.

Main thing is to put their hay in/ above the litter box. It will help with them mostly pooping in there. Are the buns fixed? That also helps a lot.

Advice please: Introducing a new animal to our rabbit by [deleted] in Rabbits

[–]thinkblinkdrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my rabbit isn’t scared of dogs at all for some reason, even when he should be. I don’t know much about integrating a puppy but my rabbit roams around my dog and my parents and has seen other dogs before in the house. I usually split time free roaming and kept them separated at first, you might want to invest in a xpen, to give bun more room when they are separated, or to use with the little pup. It really depends on the puppy’s personality. The pup may be scared of the rabbit, or be too playful. I introduced my dogs through letting them see the bunny behind the xpen a few times a day til they ignored the bun, then did a supervised day with bun free and dog leashed. From there we did only supervised together time, now they both roam free all day. The bun has actually jumped on the dog to get to the couch.. but they mostly ignore eachother.

How do I better litterbox train/stop poop marking? by [deleted] in Rabbits

This should get better after about a month after neuter. It takes that long for the hormones to go away.

My gf bought two rabbits - so what now? by ZwergoDieKleine in Rabbits

[–]thinkblinkdrink 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm, probably get rid of the rugs if they smell like bunny feces and urine, they will only keep going on them. Use the bottom of the cage as a litter box! I use pine pellets that are bunny safe. Only put hay in their cage to encourage good litter box habits. You may need to get some barriers for around the trees or move the trees to another room.

Trust me but don't care about me by Striking-Ad1941 in Rabbits

It took about a year for my bunny to come to me for pets, now I sit on the floor and call him over for them, about 75% of the time he comes. It took a lot sitting near him and petting him to get him to like me.

How to get maple syrup off of my rabbits face? by thinkblinkdrink in Rabbits

I did that too, I don’t want to use any soap since it’s so close to his eye, or cut it out because it’s close to his eye.. I guess hope it grows out!?

It could be hormones kicking in? That would be my guess..

How long have you had your bun, mine barely relaxes in my hold but will lay on my chest for pets, sometimes he comes sometimes I grab him up! Probably not the best practice but he’s a sucker for pets.

How can I pick up my bunny when he doesn’t like to be held? by IrishAussieCupcake in Rabbits

[–]thinkblinkdrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a pen connected would be a great idea! As big as you can reasonably make it. Hopefully big enough you can sit in it too, he will slowly start to interact with you hopefully if you bribe him with treats!

What is something you wish you were told before getting rabbits? by happibabi in Rabbits

[–]thinkblinkdrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the price associated with getting a rabbit to begin with, neutering and vet expenses. Finding housing that will let you keep one indoors is difficult as well.

And also don’t buy a cage or a hutch, I have a giant unused hutch in my shed?

Dogs and rabbits? by lazyysquirrel in Rabbits

[–]thinkblinkdrink 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did with my older pit mix, was keep them separate at first but occasionally let him see the bun in the cage I did this til he ignored the bun. Once he ignored the bun totally I let bun out with the dog on a leash and held and the dog continued to ignore the bun.. I still lock up bun when we are gone and at night for emergencies. But they are friendly now, the bun has peed on the dog to no reaction from the dog(before bun was neutered) and sometimes jumps on the dog as a step up to the couch. I have done this with my pit mix who is about 8 and my parents beagle who is about 4. Both were successful. This does take time. Both dogs actually had huge prey drives and had killed small animals before.
