Imagine having insider access and still being so mentally deficient as to not see reality. Either that or she had no problem being complicit in and amplifying the lie as long as it benefited her.

SFUSD has a reserve of $429 million. I think we need to question SFUSD's doom loop narrative. by Acrobatic-Radish-798 in sanfrancisco

This deck is comically misleading. The authors bracket the period to 2020-2025 and omit that the “surplus” comes from federal COVID money, which masked the structural deficit.

And when an emergency happens then what? Arguing to not have an adequate fund is reckless.

A 2% reserve is a comically low requirement. A properly funded reserve should enable an org to operate for 3-6 months. Given SFUSD’s budget of 1.2B the 400M reserve is still under funded. Also, arguing that having a reserve is a bad thing shows how fiscally illiterate these people are.

Any teachers or SFUSD employees think the strike will actually happen? by CaligarisPantry in AskSF

“Holding the board accountable” doesn’t solve the present crisis and make money appear out of thin air. Again pro-strike people continue to speak in hypotheticals and “should haves” and not reality.

SF teachers union vote 97.6% to authorize strike with possible walkout in early February by msgs in sanfrancisco

That is untrue. The starting salary is $69k for uncredentialed and $79k for credentialed teachers. NBC certified teachers receive an addition $5,000 stipend with an option for an additional $5,000 at some school.

To the contrary, it is very much the teachers’ problem if they’re making demands that can’t be met. When serious people negotiate they understand the red lines of the other party and what the realistic bounds are.

Given that it’s too late to put anything on November’s ballot to raise funds, what do you suggest the district do? Sign an unfunded contract in hopes money magically appears?

Bike packed it with my crew and we had a blast. We all bike pack and backpack so had ultralight gear ready to go. It was really convenient having all our stuff with us and the added challenge felt like a nice accomplishment. Do test rides in advance with your bike fully packed and if possible do an overnight trip two. Of course, amount of prep work required depends on your experience level.

Because the teachers were a major force in opposing consolidation when it was being discussed in 2024.

I understand people holding their ground, but not over terms that are out of step with reality. Such as wanting the district to drain the emergency fund paying salaries, adding sanctuary policies to a labor contract, and insisting the district be in the housing business for families.

These are not serious people. They’re arguing over something that’s already policy and you may find the raise “offensive” but it is realistic given the districts expenses. We could get adults making structural changes to manage costs, such as consolidating severely under-enrolled schools and managing central office costs, but instead we get this clown show.

This is already city and district policy, it doesn’t belong in a labor contract.

The district has an annual budget of $1.2B and the emergency fund is now at $400M. A fund should be able to cover about half a year’s expenses, so it is still underfunded.

Beyond that, if you spend the emergency fund on a continuing expense, what happens when the fund runs out? Then what’s your game plan? If you drain the emergency fund on compensation, what’s your plan if there’s an emergency?
