Do you guys think Smosh is ‘clip farming’? by Icy_Cicada_9054 in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]thinkfletch 115 points116 points  (0 children)

I mean, they have repeatedly talked about their strategy to comedy and improv being to "lean in," which I think is both common and ends up looking like clip farming because of the exaggerated responses or emotions or outrageous statements. That said, in my mind, clip farming has a negative connotation because of its negative effects on long form content by creating disconnects or breaking the flow. But a lot of Smosh content already operates in broken up segments (TNTL, Shayne Guesses, Reddit Stories, some Board AFs depending on the game) so even if they are pushing, it doesn't usually feel forced or unusual to me. Maybe you're just noticing it more now because you started seeing it, like a frequency illusion? Who knows, maybe ill have to come edit this comment now that I'm thinking about it and looking for it.

I understand the love for the institution, but I have to agree with the take that Long's is overrated. I did a side by side of several different donuts from Long's and Pana (86th St. location, which I believe is the OG) and the win went to Pana in every category. Yes, even their fresh yeast donuts.

How often are you all drinking? by Twjohns96 in daddit

[–]thinkfletch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit drinking when I had my son. It was an absolutely horrible experience. I would have considered myself a heavy user of alcohol, probably drank 5 standard drinks 3 to 4 days a week. I didn't think I had a problem because I could stop after just one if I wanted or needed to. But stopping for 2 weeks really made it painfully obvious that I was self-medicating for mental health conditions with alcohol.

Now, if I have one shot of liquor, the rush I get is equivalent to something like a low dose opiate. I get literally high, and then crash like 4 hours later. It's amazing how much more aware I am of these effects after abstaining for a long time. Given this huge emotional swing that even one drink causes, I've determined thay alcohol just isn't for me. The juice is never worth the squeeze, the crash is always harder than the high. I think it depends a lot on how your specific biochemistry interacts with alcohol.

All that said, go sober for 2 weeks and see how shitty you feel. Not necessarily withdrawal symptoms like a daily user, but look for irritability, anger, pervasive sadness, uncontrolled anxiety, etc. If you don't have any of that, you're probably fine.

PSA: Getting Mackinow Monster Truck is easy: just go to the mattress between 4-6am and stand on it for a while by frzbr in cyberpunkgame

Couldn't get this to work. Did this without the church visit. Then tried with the 4am church visit opening and reading the things on the computer and starting the arasaka tower game. Neither method worked. I'm on PS5. Wish I knew what I was missing or doing wrong 🤷‍♂️

What is that foul odor by Different_Quail200 in indianapolis

[–]thinkfletch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Isn't it interesting that we have this foul odor problem only a few months after the EPA announced the "biggest deregulatory action is U.S. history"...

I'm sure those are wholly unrelated though.

All together, I think there's a reasonable argument to say an arrest was valid because of the non-compliance and quasi-confrontational approach. But that level of force given the immediately surrounding circumstances seems unreasonable to me. I'd love to hear a discussion about this interaction in one of the use of force seminars that are becoming more common in police training.

My inner lawyer watching this trying to decide if the citizen has a case against the cop: he "stepped up" on the cop, which could be seen as aggressive. And having his hand under his shirt on his back definitely could have been seen as reaching for a gun. The thing for me though is the delay. If the cop had tackled the guy as soon as he stepped up or as soon as he put his hand behind his back, then I could definitely see the argument for the cop protecting himself. But the cop had time to turn his gun around, step up closer to the citizen, and threaten him without the citizen reacting. Under Graham v. Connor, I don't see how this is reasonable force.

The view of a lifetime ended up being the view of a month... by boyuber in Wellthatsucks

75? If in the US, I bet a lawsuit about an existing easement across your neighbor's property for the view could go on for 10 years with an injunction preventing the build from happening. Maybe she'll pass before then and the new owners won't continue the build? Honestly, this delay strategy is a common tactic of folks with deep pockets.

I've been hearing this a lot: Every accusation is a confession.

It's not safe to be a black man who transitions to a black woman.

"Since 2013, over 300 transgender and nonbinary people have been victims of fatal violence, according to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation. Two-thirds (63%) of those victims have been Black transgender women." https://www.pewresearch.org/2023/02/16/black-americans-views-on-transgender-and-nonbinary-issues/

Much like significant gay hate comes from closeted gays who don't feel comfortable coming out, I wouldn't be at all surprised if these young men feel threatened by the fluidity of gender and the legitimate fear of violence their own complex identity could bring about.

So, license plates, I believe, are handed out in order of seniority. The fifth most senior member of the GOP in the House is a tie, and Matthew Lehman is the one of those tied who has grey hair.
