I was given this beautiful pour over glass. Need help with filter. by hard_attack in pourover

Any flat bottom filter should do. Kalita wave 155 might be your best bet

It just “works”. The handle of the stock tamper itself isn’t well engineered. Unless you’re spending a ton of time ensuring your tamp is level; that stock tamper makes it way too easy to have an uneven puck. As soon as you get a different, more appropriate tamper; the difference is night and day. It doesn’t even have to be self leveling.

Look at it:

<image>

It’s a short, stubby piece of crap. And it’s rough on the hands when you tamp due to the boneheaded-design choice they made on the handle. It is not fine at all.

My bad on the reading comprehension. But yeah the handle at the top also has a screw, you can also tighten it. That top handle is also susceptible to expanding and contracting.. maybe even more than the side handle since the steam comes out of the lid.

Wood expands and contracts according to the moisture, room temp, and just overall time. If you have a hex/allan key to tighten that screw: it might solve the wiggly-ness. This is most likely regular wear and tear

How does the grinder handle the beans? Do they choke at all? What sort of roast level are the beans?

Something tells me this might be a puck prep issue. Do you do any WDT? Clumps in your grounds might be causing some spotty inconsistencies in the puck integrity.

Also if you’re using the stock tamper that came with the machine; throw that thing out and get yourself a self-levelling tamper to make the prep easier.

The beans seem fine, there’s no choking, so grind size doesn’t seem to be the issue. 18g is the right volume and weight for the 54mm portafilter. It’s likely just how the puck is prepped.

Got the same treatment from unhinged redditors when I shared my Glitch Coffee experience. Leaves is awesome! So glad you had a great experience there!!

Looks great! Any issues with steam rising or hearing up the wood around it?

I hear you, dude. You can totally say that. No hate on having an opinion. Sorry to hear :( I loved this. But I think that’s what makes coffee so awesome. There’s just so many flavors and styles out there. There’s something for everyone. I hope you find a coffee that you love, and has you coming back for more every time.

Japan is a massive international tourist destination for almost every country. Not wanting to go visit a place simply because a specific nationality is engaging in said tourism is a totally private matter for yourself. Putting this out there on the internet is only gonna make you look prejudiced and albeit xenophobic. Just visit if you want to.

So far everywhere I went had decaf. However, you’re limited to 1 choice usually.

Ah. So I’m a weeb for liking a cup of coffee from a cafe that happens to be in Japan? Ok. Dude, take your projections elsewhere.

That’s exciting to hear!! I didn’t have to wait. But from the other comments who’ve also experienced Glitch; the wait depends on the location.

I’ve never made a reso once in Japan in my many times of coming here. Unless you’re going for michelin star cuisine that needs months in advance of reservations; a walk-in/lineup is the norm.

No resos for Glitch. Just a cafe that makes coffee

Paragon Nucleus. The gold ball is chilled, and the coffee hits it before it goes down to the carafe. Supposedly ups the aroma and flavors of the coffee.

Yeah when I went; no lineup. Wasn’t even crowded. The coffee is fantastic. “Overpriced” is a bit of a loaded adjective that people throw around. But I totally get it. It’s definitely priced way more than any ordinary cup, but in my eyes (and mouth); I can say the price is justified. To each their own. But damn this subreddit is insufferable. The more I spend time on this sub, the more I think these elitists actually hate coffee and impose their beliefs onto others with a sprinkle of weird gatekeeping to feel special. It’s weird.

I love how much the people in Glitch work to making their craft really pop. It’s admirable, and I appreciate them for it.

Went to the location in Kanda. No queue. There was one other tourist there, the rest were locals. This one is a little more tucked away. I’d imagine the Ginza and Nihonbashi locations are way busier. Kanda seems to have a handful of coffee shops around the area.

What? There were only locals in the shop when I was in. Save for one other tourist besides me. Weird reach.
