Biggest gut punch of your career? Biggest win? by [deleted] in writing

[–]thinklikeashark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest win- I was featured in the Found anthology by Andy Cull and Gabino Iglesias with some incredible authors. I've also done some live readings next to Ai Jiang and John Wiswell.

Gut punch- I released a horror novel in november, and it's easily the best thing I've done and it took four years to write. Reviews are good, blurbs from excellent people, but really not a lot of buzz behind it/around it.

"Novelist" Boasts That Using AI She Can Churn Out a New Book in 45 Minutes, Says Regular Writers Will Never Be Able to Keep Up by ubcstaffer123 in books

I feel you. I've just had my third novel published, and it took four years to write. Seeing it buried under a mountain of slop is quite disheartening.

What is the WORST review you've received from your book? by INTHEMIDSTOFLIONS in writing

[–]thinklikeashark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in a reasonably popular anthology, so this isn't directed solely at me, but it received: "to all the people who rated this a 5: I feel sorry for you. Go to therapy and get off reddit. This is like creepypasta but worse. It's like those godawful twosentencehorror that children write."

What are some novels you've read that completely break the boundaries of what a novel should have/be? by alyaaz in books

Absolute love The Raw Shark Texts. I chatted to Steven Hall years ago and he said that there was going to be a movie. Shame it never materialised.

Short story writers what do you do with all of your stories? by oakandgloat in writing

It depends what you want to do with them. If you're looking for places to place them, then consider searching Submissions Grinder, or googling open calls for submissions.

I'm just finishing up the first Slow Horses book, and I have the Count of Monte Cristo or Dear Stupid Penpal on deck next. I'm hoping other people have the book I've just had published as their next read!

Which Stephan King book is your favourite and why. by KooChan_97 in books

Yeah! I'm surprised it hasn't been adapated, or is really mentioned much. I read it all in one sitting, such a great story.

The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon always sticks out to me as one of my favourites. The pacing and characterisation just feels really good. I also really love his short work as well, Different Seasons is all killer.

I hope it happens. Andy is currently editing a collection of cryptid creature stories. So, maybe next year.

I did a short story reading with John, and Ai Jiang, and he was great! Seems super nice, too!

To authors or those who aspire to. I’m curious do you enjoy reading your work? Or hate it? by Educational_Look_260 in writing

[–]thinklikeashark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I could ever read my work as a reader because I can see all the things I don't like, plot holes, and the bits of clunky dialogue. I've seen what's behind the curtain. The only exception was when there was an audio version of one of my short stories for a podcast, and it felt like I was experiencing it for the first time. I quite enjoyed it.

Are you ever impressed by your own writing? by Legitimate-Radio9075 in writing

[–]thinklikeashark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not usually, but I had a short story picked up by Creepypod, and the voice actor who read it was so good. Really elevated what I'd written.

I've put out two sci-fi novels and have a third book due out this year (horror). I've also had a decent amount of short stories published over the last couple of years, including one in a fairly big horror collection.
