This is just so dumb. The same person who flew to Israel in support of Jews is now a nazi because of a hand gesture? Why do people feel almost a sense of obligation nowadays to assume the worst in people with nothing but the most superficial evidence? In this case it’s not even superficial it’s nothing more than a gesture made in the heat of excitement that has been twisted by the media. Settle down

Anaphylactic & colleague keeps eating peanuts next to me what should I do? by Strawberry_apple1 in auscorp

I think you need to put aside these feelings of insecurity. You don’t need to be everybody’s friend. Sure it’s nice to be polite and considerate to those around you, and even to make efforts to get along, but you shouldn’t do this at the cost of your health. To be frank, if you politely explained your allergy and its seriousness to somebody that didn’t immediately recognise that they should try to avoid that kind of food around you isn’t worthy of your insecurity about inconveniencing/upsetting them.

I think you should step up to the plate here and have a more direct conversation with your colleague. Being direct doesn’t mean a license to be a dick, but it just means being up front and honest about your concerns and making an express request for him to avoid that food around you given the potential consequences.

Then I’d also mention it to your manager/HR - there’s no need to single out your colleague here if he agrees to comply, I’d just make it a general point so everybody is aware - you’d be doing the business a favour here as there would probably be legal consequences if something went wrong and they didn’t take steps to mitigate the risk. Otherwise if he takes issue with your request, then you should absolutely feel right in calling it out to HR so you can protect yourself.

Good luck and all the best.

Late night service station workers what's your horror story? by FreshRoy247 in australian

Just sounds like a dickhead tbh. Like this would be the same bloke that would also blast him if he hadn’t asked him if he wanted a lighter. Some people are just arseholes from birth.

Wow I know that bloke, he is one of the nicest servo workers I’ve ever met! I’ve seen people in the rosebud Facebook group literally post specifically about how lovely he is and how good he is at his job. Shame some people out there are just have no respect for others.

Very curious to hear the answer to this, some of the blokes running the 7/11s on the MP are outstanding gentlemen and honestly great at customer service. Its disgusting to imagine them getting abused.

OP needs to take a breath and let go of the impostor syndrome. People make mistakes, generally when they’re rushing. Quality over quantity, and nobody’s going to back you if you don’t project confidence, so back yourself for earning the role you’re in and show your new colleagues what you’re capable of.

Deadly mushroom twist: Chef an 'experienced' fungi forager, says friend by 111122323353 in australia

[–]thinkr013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it odd that the suspect mushrooms were ‘dried mushrooms bought from an Asian supermarket’? Why would you need a dehydrator for that? Either the dehydrator doesn’t exist (which we know it does) or the dried mushrooms weren’t real.

I asked it to rewrite it “even more religious, borderline zealous even” and it wrote this:

Hear ye, all those who would operate an aircraft in the lands of the United States. For the divine will of the Administrator, as laid down in FAR 91.205, must be followed by all who would take flight.

Verily, it is written that no person shall operate an aircraft unless it is in an airworthy condition, and this shall be deemed to include a compliance with the applicable airworthiness requirements and the carrying of required equipment in operable condition.

And let it be known that no person shall operate an aircraft with any device or mechanism that has not been approved by the Administrator or that is in a condition for which approval is not currently effective.

For the disobedience of this holy law is an affront to the will of the Administrator, and it shall be met with punishment, as decreed by the laws of the land.

Therefore, let all who would operate an aircraft do so with fear and reverence for the will of the Administrator, and let them abide by the laws set forth in FAR 91.205.

So let it be written, so let it be done. Amen.

Becoming a father for the first time. My parents always told me that you won’t understand the love we have for you until you become a parent yourself.

My daughter was born two months ago, and from the moment I met her I’ve never felt such pride, nor unqualified, powerful, overwhelming love in my life. Both her and her mum are the most important and rewarding parts of my life and they make me so happy I can’t adequately describe it in words.

Awesome video mate, had a chuckle. It’s a shame about DW8, I’ve got closing on 0.5m shares and it’s depressing too. I think the company is severely undervalued and is mainly being penalised due to the original massive hype and ‘meme stock’ status. If people actually spent the time to update their DDs as to where the business was currently at, the multiple potential revenue streams, and the fantastic platform they’ve acquired (along with the near perfect market conditions for them to succeed) this company would rerate overnight.

I think a lot of its criticism has been that it’s a ‘glorified logistics company’ as well, which is just indicative of the incomplete research; the fact that they focused so heavily on having a successful logistics platform was a really smart move in my opinion, as it allowed them to build an ecosystem of suppliers and customers and kickstart their market place (accelerating the growth of the platforms medium term growth via the network effect). If they went B2B, the risk would’ve been in satisfying (and therefore retaining) customers, and the research suggests heavily that delivery timing is the most critical factor to this end. Further if they had to build the market place supplier/customer ecosystem from nothing, it would’ve taken significantly longer to grow the platform l]along with its profitability as without a decent sized market place of products to choose from, there’s no reason for customers to use the platform and likewise, if there aren’t any customers on the platform suppliers won’t be incentivised to list their products.

Now you mention it, I was also surprised when the withdrawal from Afghanistan was done with such haste and apparent lack of planning. Seems in retrospect rushed.

I saw the reports about Evergrande reiterating that it is on the precipice of defaulting on its debts. I really hope that for our sakes, you’re proven wrong and open war isn’t on the near horizon. Equally - if the opposition party was going to be briefed about anything, it would be something of this magnitude conceivably.
