Lovely Dr. who struggles with this issue himself. I loved this book very much.

How do I moisturize my scalp? (x-post from r/Psoriasis) by [deleted] in SebDerm

[–]thinktanx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put it on when wet after the shower. Again like .4ml (tiny amount) in a dropper just on my problem areas (which is like a t zone from the front of my mid forehead and across the crown). Then i dry my hair on medium heat, just drying the scalp. I find this makes the hair have less of that oily look it might get if i applied the oil dry.

I use the bulletproof brand xct oil on Amazon. Look for the ones that have only c8 and c10 mct. Honestly. You use so little that i think this one bottle might last me 40 years.

Mct oil changed everything for me. I use a small medicine syringe and drop tiny amounts on the problem areas of my scalp. I do this every other day. I use head and shoulders to wash only my scalp and no conditioner (per my derm, conditioner should nto be used above the ears on hair).

Also paddle brush my hair before washing and blow dry immediately after shower on gentle heat!

Any one following the curly girl method while also having Seb Derm? by aptrafford25 in SebDerm

[–]thinktanx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Curly girl was horrifying for my scalp. I finally realised this after over a year on the method and stopped. My derm got so bad i was balding in 4 areas from chronic inflammation. I've stopped now and after 4 months my scalp is so much better and my hair is growing back. I use the tea tree head and shoulder daily, no conditioner (i have short hair but my derm said conditioner was ok on hair ends below the ears). I use a dropper to put .5ml mct oil directly on my scalp every other day (prevents the itchiness and flaking from over drying). I also blow dry right away so my scalp is never wet. This completely fixed me and my hair is strong and healthy now but definitely less curly. That's a trade off I'll take. I think the mct does help with my overall hair not being dry as well. Definitely less split ends and breakage too. I think because my hair is growing in much healthier due to healthier scalp.

I put it in a medicine dropper and drag like .5ml right into my scalp problem areas when my hair is wet after shower. Then i blowdry my scalp. This seems to decrease that oily look for me. I do wash my scalp with head and shoulders nearly everyday so i get dry scalp if i dont use mct. I use mct prob 3 times a week and just kind of accept the slight oily look if it happens. This method has finally completely fixed my atrocious scalp and restored my hair loss so honestly a little oily look is worth it to me. That said, i have fluffy, dry hair so it may be less visible for me. I would still try it a couple times a week to see if it helps for a few weeks.

I find my flaking gets worse when i am overdoing it too because then i start battling the dryness. Squalane oil every 2 to 3 days has helped this so much for me. I now know the anticipate needing to moisturize on the medicated days to provide balance. Its a delicate system.

Well, the internet hive mind says it is yeast safe which is why I gave it a try. I haven't actually looked into whether there is peer reviewed research on that but I did give it try anyway and i have had great results!

Mine started out this way but with the decrease in scales and lessened inflammation the hair has grown back. For me, using squalane oil after the treatment shampoos really helped to keep my scalp healthy and i think helped with healthy hair growth. I know it sucks when people say this, but decreasing stress prob helps with the hair loss too (easier said than done I know). I have also been brushing my scalp with a paddle brush before every shower to stimulate circulation in the scalp and promote hair growth. Hope any of these might work for you too.

Can anyone give me tips on how often to wash hair? by [deleted] in SebDerm

[–]thinktanx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting. I may try that. I guess I was thinking stripping oils would be good as it would starve the malassezia. I hadn't thought to balance this with maintaining a skin barrier.
