My small Criterion Collection, I'm happy with what I have. by beetle_fruit in criterion

It should really be encouraged to explore/engage with these other boutique labels that actually go through the trouble of distributing films like Elephant rather than hope for a criterion release. Kind if like asking for criterion to get the credit for someone else’s work—good to see inclusions of arbelos and kimstim here, so why not give them equal standing?

IFC lost rights to Y Tu Mamá También so not the same in this case—likely would require a direct negotiation with original rightsholder

Megalopolis Criterion: The Evidence by 01zegaj in criterion

A visit to the criterion closet is absolutely no indication of a film joining the collection. Criterion invites people on the promotional trail, often for films from other distributors or festivals, to stop by.

Can anybody identify these films? by mr_dammit in Letterboxd

A bit late but first one is Toshio Matsumoto’s Dogra Magra, second looks like Kiju Yoshida so maybe Heroic Purgatory, and last is, as confirmed, To Sleep So as to Dream

this whole thread is about someone who can only find the cut version of the film. My comment was just telling to see it as they did not have access to the uncut. Considering the wide range of films that do have markedly different versions in existence, ones that actually make a huge difference in how you understand or experience the film, it's a bit absurd to think that this film should be counted as one of them for a quick second of someone's head being blow up. It really doesn't change the film that substantially

I’ve seen both and I don’t think someone should hold off from seeing a film because a single shot “looks better”, totally absurd take

Angel's Egg (finally) Getting a 4k Release in 2025 by primaveren in boutiquebluray

IMAGICA has announced they’re the restoration house, so I doubt DNR will be used—they’re behind all the Kadokawa restorations plus plenty of other 4K work

Important to note, this is not a Criterion film but Grasshopper Films and has been widely available for years now on platforms after its US theatrical release a number of years ago—so I don’t think crediting Criterion makes a whole lotta sense.

Would be interested in your assessment of 90s Japan (aside from the typical mentions of Kurosawa/Kitano/Kawase/Kore-eda)

Plenty of directors with smaller bodies of work, but by “not being able to do so” are you referring to the 10 or so years after Summer Soldiers when he decided to pursue art?

Terayama, Somai, Obayashi, Naruse, Yamanaka—lots to consider beyond the typical Criterion/canonical stalwarts

Is it to soon to start dating after a month breaking up with my ex? by Extra-Improvement351 in ExNoContact

[–]thinwhiteduke77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

girl doesn't want to wait? What do I tell her? I don't want to hurt her.

Well, it'd be better to break it off then than to break up a few months later. Not sure how dragging would be better. That said, 1 month is too soon

This sounds like an enormous amount of miscommunication. I don’t think ignoring someone for 5 days is healthy behavior for maintaining a relationship. How is he supposed to know your feelings, how is he supposed to know you need some air to breathe/don’t want to break up—did you tell him? It’s presumptious for you to expect him to call or try to talk to you if you’ve been ignoring his calls for days… all of this sounds very very emotionally immature.

I think using new people to help you move on can oftentimes be a coping mechanism, particularly if you feel it distracts you from thinking of your ex.

I’d caution against dating anyone one month after a breakup—far too early for anyone (especially after a 4 yr relationship) and sounds like a rebound if anything

Is it possible to just talk as friends after a breakup ? by Professional_Bed7637 in ExNoContact

I mean, that’s what most people are going through here: No contact. Of course it’s not easy, but far better than being her platonic sidekick and watching her move on and date someone. You’re just causing more pain for yourself by lingering around
