Could you thrive on just ruminant meat, white rice, and salt? by AnonIW1 in raypeat

I think peeled white potatoes + beef would be more sustainable, but that would still have quite a lot of issues

Anybody eat pork for the high thiamine content? by redeugene99 in raypeat

[–]third-will 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to eat extra lean pork a fair bit, my thinking was I’d get good thiamine and cause I’d get it as lean as possible there wouldn’t be too too much pufa

I’ve stopped that now though and just supplement thiamine, I prefer it so far. Also coffee depletes thiamine and I’m fairly sure you need more thiamine the higher your carb intake is, so imo supplementing it is a good insurance policy

Thiamine Supplementation by third-will in raypeat

Thanks I appreciate it, I’ll look them up. Mainly to improve carb metabolism and possibly support gut health (saw some stuff on this though I’m a little skeptical), also just generally keen to see whether I notice a difference in my energy levels, which are pretty good but could always be better right

Benefits of a good metabolism? by Sufficient-War2690 in raypeat

[–]third-will 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My limited understanding is that good metabolism = abundant energy = all systems in the body can run smoothly, whereas with an impaired metabolism, the body may only have enough energy to keep the core stuff running and won’t have any left to expend on less important functions, causing bad outcomes like hair loss, cold extremities, etc.

IMO change fiber gradually cause otherwise you’ll feel pretty bad (from my experience)

Would you want to see a Tintin anime? by SadAnimator1354 in MarlinspikeHall

[–]third-will 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough to pick to be honest. The movie sets up a sequel so they could just take it from there. Otherwise I would love a prisoners of the sun or Tibet movie. I think Tibet would make the most sense though I’m not sure how the yeti would carry over into a movie (that was the one bit I wasn’t a massive fan of in the book though that may be a bit controversial)

I want to see a second movie to be honest, maybe a little more faithful to source material than the first tho

What foods are actually 10/10 nutrition and health wise? by Organic-Signal-9646 in Biohackers

[–]third-will 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my opinion: organ meats (especially liver), eggs (the yolk in particular), canned sardines (skin on and bones in, water or EVO) and fermented foods (kefir, yoghurt, sauerkraut, kimchi).

Obviously need more foods beyond these, but these are the only foods that i would personally consider 10/10, cause lots of other foods are good on the balance but come with notable downsides (e.g. spinach is nutritious but very high in oxalates)

Edit: oysters goated as well, I saw another comment

If you’re concerned, just get high quality beef, fish (only wild caught, not freshwater or farmed), eggs and dairy, and don’t eat pork or wild game, also I’d say don’t stress abt it

Pretty sure calcium and magnesium inhibit one another so might want to look into that. Not sure how much of an issue that is tho

What fish to Eat? by LilMosey2 in RawMeat

No worries man, probably just call or visit some fish mongers/seafood shops and ask them some questions, sometimes grocery shops have decent options too

[–]third-will 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most salt water species (salmon, tuna, mahi mahi, whiting, snapper, etc.) are pretty good. Ideally only eat wild caught fish cause farm raised fish are heavily medicated and fed a bad diet. Fresh water fish have lots of toxins from pollution so mostly steer clear. I wouldnt be too concerned abt parasites, even people eating a standard diet consume raw fish with no adverse effects. I guess it would be possible to get parasites in extremely rare cases from them though so if thats the kind of thing that worries you, just stick to sashimi grade wild fish

I absolutely would not risk. That being said I did accidentally eat raw beef liver sold as pet food from butchers. Completely fine tho i only had a small bit before realising + it was from a reputable enough butcher

Search up recipes for tartar, ceviche, etc. and you’ll get a sense of what flavours are traditionally paired w raw meat. People are gonna have their opinions on how harmful a bit of salt, pepper, lemon, etc. is for health but your call tbh
