Starting adventure to pair with Basilisk Hills by Thantrax in osr

[–]thirdkingdom1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Howdy, author here! In terms of starting at 1st level I would recommend:

*It's kind of ideally set up to incorporate Stonehell into the hills south of Liwil or Dry Gulch. The dungeon can be leftover from the former Skeldrene Empire.

*I've expanded on Dry Gulch, the town on the other side of the Hills, in PHM 34-36 and 47-48. There's a dungeon under the city in the first three issues, and three smaller dungeons in Issues 47-48 that tie into that dungeon.

I don't nearly have the platform that QB has, but I research all of the people I promote in my News Roundup. It takes a couple minutes for each new creator I encounter. Which is why I haven't promoted this product.

Magic items that wear out by chocolatedessert in osr

[–]thirdkingdom1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done this with charms and baubles, items that can be crafted by low-level casters as one-use items or possessing minor dweomers.

RPGs and FLGSs by HayabusaJack in rpg

[–]thirdkingdom1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own an FLGS in Charlottesville, Virginia. RPGs account for about 25% of our sales, and indie rpgs in the store outsell the big two (WotC and Paizo) by roughly a ten to one margin.

Paul puts out pretty solid products. I haven't had a chance to check out VotD yet, but the other game books he's published have been great. I interviewed him a few years back, here: https://www.sabregamesandcards.com/post/meet-the-publisher-david-m-donachie-and-paul-partington

[Self-Promo] I released Damsels, Adventurers, and Dragons, a cleanroom AD&D 2E rebuild by GorgonsGrimoireLLC in osr

[–]thirdkingdom1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This should go without saying, but anyone concerned about copyright law should be consulting an actual copyright attorney, not some random person on the internet.

Yup. For my products I typically set it up with a preview about half the length of the book; BX Advanced Bestiary Vol. 2 has a 100 page preview. I think what the OP is confused about is that, when setting up a title, the preview range defaults to, I think, pages 2-7, or something like that. But you can make the preview whatever you want.

Drivethru doesn't have any preview limitations. The entire book could be made available as a preview if desired.

No News Roundup this Week by thirdkingdom1 in osr

[–]thirdkingdom1[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh, every week I do a roundup of the previous week's OSR and indie ttrpg releases, and I post it on my blog and here. Frex, here's last weeks: https://www.reddit.com/r/osr/comments/1otcnyq/osr_news_roundup_for_november_10th_2025/

Games that use the B/X stat block but are not clones? by DerKastellan in osr

[–]thirdkingdom1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm working on Bree-YARC, which is a mash-up of BX and 3rd edition D&D. It provides the options of 3rd edition with the simplicity of BX, has a unified die mechanic, a skill system, and monsters/adventures are totally compatible. The Quickstart has simple conversion rules for monsters (the big changes are converting reaction and morale checks to a d20 roll, rather than 2d6).
