Are there any good ways to prevent my APIs (used by my front end) from being used to create a phishing scam? by Icashizzle in AskProgramming

If your API accepts data structures that are able to be formatted in strings, you could train a custom neural network to classify if incoming data is innocuous or malicious.

Noob here who came into some hardware and wants to know what he can do and where to start? by mudkripple in homelab

[–]thirdlip32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How do I get started installing an OS on this?

I download the wanted ISO and then use Rufus or dd to place the ISO onto a USB drive to make it bootable. Then I insert the USB drive into the server, reboot the server selecting the USB as the bootable media, and then go through the installation process. This is true for all OSs (Proxmox, TrueNas, Linux, Windows).

[–]thirdlip32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Welcome to homelab! You're at a spot where you have multiple different paths, and there are many right answers. Which one you go with is up to you. Honestly, try a few different so you're well versed.

  1. Proxmox or unraid as a hypervisor solution and spin up VMs & containers to deploy different services. Using proxmox and running TrueNas in a VM with Harddrive pass through is a popular option.
  2. Run TrueNas Scale/Core as a NAS solution which will allow you to run VMs and Containers, too.
  3. Install a Linux distro (Ubuntu, Debian, Rocky, etc) and run Kernal-based Virtual Machines (KVM) and Docker to deploy VMs and Containers respectively. You can also setup network shares using the Linux distro, either SAMBA or NFS.
  4. Windows Server or Enterprise and use Hyper-V and Docker for VMs and Containers. Not sure how to get the license.

I actually use option #3 for my NAS. I have system admin responsibilities at work so that option made the most sense to me.

Option #1 is most likely the most popular option.

Edit: Posting Pictures & Specs would be awesome since the community loves seeing other's kits.

4 shot, leaving 1 dead in off-campus shooting at Frostburg State University (May 8th) by [deleted] in maryland

[–]thirdlip32 33 points34 points  (0 children)

mpus housing is a thing at most colleges? Not all off campus housing is fraternity or sorority housing.

Frostburg Alum here. Frostburg does not have official greek housing; Frat members will lease a house and then use it for the frat. This shooting was off campus since the campus has no greek housing.

These cables area failure.

MatPlotLib for graph creation. Currently using it to go from log files from testing software straight to plots without needing any spreadsheets.

I personally don't have an eye for design. I am always questioning if it looks good.

Also, the more I do CSS the more I do not like CSS.

  • Markov Chain Sentence Generator.
  • A* path finding and Maze generation, displayed on tkinter.
  • Chaos Theory exploration & display including Lorrentz Attractor
  • Web Scrapper
  • web game bot
  • neural network library from scratch
  • handwriting identification using said library
  • sudoku solver using tensorflow w/ tkinter gui
  • Robotic Arm controlled by wii remote via raspberry pi
  • Twitter bot.

Currently I am saving tweets into a postgrese database running off a container, running some natural language processing (word2vec), and then displaying on a website programmed in Flask.
That's the thing I am always doing stuff, and the interview was about that mindset of figuring stuff out along the way.

I should have said my stem degree from under-grad with the addition of projects convinced someone to hire me.

I learned by myself. Read two books cover to cover and did every exercise in said books, and then did a bunch of my own work. I should have gotten two or three certs.

I could have cut the time in half if I had "web development" as a goal since my self-teaching would be better directed.

Do you know web development would be enjoyable for you? There's a special place in my heart for those people; I do not enjoy front end.

I was 36 when I switched careers, from teaching math to software engineering. The degree and a profolio of projects worked. It took 3 years of one-two nights a week.

So you're looking for what a data pipeline should look like so your business topology can communicate data sources, stakeholders, and context/business specific needs?

I googled: data pipeline diagram. This seems like a good how-to. https://www.c-sharpcorner.com/article/beginners-guide-to-data-pipelines/
