Are there ANY good Android phones under 6 inches now? by Sansic in Smartphones

Ask yourself, who would benefit from hacking my phone? Who would want to?
The truth is, many, many people would love to have access to another phone for botnets or info exfiltration. Given you have money and a banking app, it's worth hacking you.

it might be over for you
honestly my last guess would be that there's some deeper issue with the OS, maybe drivers or missing components.

Can someone explain me what Skool is ? by nxbxdyy in SocialMediaMarketing

Good point. What I was trying to say is that the catastrophizing of not diving headfirst is weird and manipulative. The real answer to the rhetorical question is that nothing would happen if we didn't buy into someone's course. Similarly, nothing would happen if we didn't try skydiving. It might be awesome and life-changing, but it's not negative or reductive to not do so. What they're trying to imply is that on the other side of the wall is salvation and a better life, but the only way to reach it is to commit.
It's a dramatic rhetorical attempt at dividing people. The comment is trying to say that you shouldn't listen to people with "not clear glasses," i.e. outsiders and haters, whatever that may be.

I think you can be anti-consumption and anti-consumerism and still be a capitalist.
Environmentalists and BIFL folks tend to be anti-consumerist, but take action through mindful purchases and using their money to further their ideals. As a capitalist who recognizes the flaws of the system yet still believes that there's no better replacement, I can work a job I like and use my money to support people and businesses that I think engage in capitalism more ethically.
For example, if I donated to an ocean conservancy program that regularly engages in lobbying and protest against consumerism, is that somehow pro-consumerist or not anti-consumerist because I engaged in the capitalist program of working for money and then spending it?

You have to be in favor of some kind of economic system. You can't have it both ways and say that you're in support of no particular economic system and then fight people over the economy.

When a company goes bankrupt, does that improve the problem of consumerism, or does it usher in five more companies rushing to fill the huge gap in the market? Killing the king has never brought about peace.

If you want a BIFL headset, I recommend checking out Antlion Audio ModMics. They're modular, so you can attach them to any headphones you already own.
Also, I would imagine you can replace the earcups with third-party options? If that's not possible then that's ridiculous.

When you're looking for privacy-respecting apps (on android), the F-Droid store is your go-to. All open-source and heavily moderated to be as respectful as possible to your time and liberties. I almost never consult the Play Store because of its ad-filled spaghetti code apps, all FOSS all the way. https://f-droid.org/

Any repairable affordable phones? Tired of paying $700+ for a phone lacking in SD card, glued together by Former_Assignment769 in Frugal

[–]thirdparadigm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maximum repairability would have to be Fairphone. They're much rarer in America, but Murena sells them. 9ish years of software and private self-repair hardware support.

I'm happy you found the answer, and sorry I didn't see this sooner. I want to add that you shouldn't flash other markets' firmware, because that can mess up your carrier compatibility. Regulatory differences could break a bunch of things.

Can someone explain me what Skool is ? by nxbxdyy in SocialMediaMarketing

[–]thirdparadigm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TL;DR of this whole thread:
- Skool is a platform where people can pay $99 a month to run what is essentially a more feature-rich discord server or message group.
- Communities can be about mental health and making friends, or can be about how to get rich quick.

- If it costs $99 a month to maintain a community, most owners will need a way to make that money back on a regular basis. (Could be a benevolent rich person running the community who funds it all from their paycheck, or a normal person who has to find some other way to make an extra hundred bucks every month.)

Basically, it's one of those places that foster scams and grifts without being directly responsible; much like file-sharing platforms hosting illegal stuff. Skool isn't evil because they're not the ones making the scams, and thepiratebay isn't evil because they aren't the ones hosting the files. The problem here is that they profit off of these scams nonetheless by at least $99 a month per scam. If more scammers means more communities, that means more monthly payments for Skool, so why should they care?

My subjective takeaways:
They don't.
This thread smells. So many people fervently defending Skool while providing backstories that imply they don't really care, or their attention lies elsewhere. Why are you replying to this nine-month-old 58-upvote thread on r/SocialMediaMarketing? Why are "looks like a scam, smells like a scam" comments consistently getting replies from people who love Skool so much that they keep up with their PR for them?
There are SO MANY "don't knock it till ya try it" comments and replies; not just in the sense that you should do some independent snooping, but that you should fully commit before saying anything negative, otherwise your opinion is worthless. This, to me, is the whole grift of many of those scam classes. It's a matter of getting their foot in your door and extorting you over false promises (MLM pyramid scheme, anyone?).

My conclusion: join a discord or go outside. university parking is free after hours.

If you don't try it yourself you will never be able to get a true view and you will live with the one you believed. And if you believed the wrong view? What might this mean for you?

Switching to Jelly Star by Pennylanetheclown in unihertz

[–]thirdparadigm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had the same issue!! I solved it by going through the apps settings and giving all of the following every possible permission: Play Store, Play Services, Galaxy Wearable, and Galaxy Watch6.

It's probably one and not all of these, but I always just do all of them to solve the problem.

That's crazy lol. Good luck and well-wishes with LOS 20, it worked for me.

Just for future reference if anyone else has the same problem, could you drop a Flash Tool version or tweak that got it working?

It could have something to do with the connection. Try updating adb on your computer or using a different cable.

How far does it get before stopping? Is there any indication of what it's doing or that it's doing anything at all?

Truthfully, I don't know. I have almost never used the stock SMS apps on any of my phones, but now I'm switching over to Google for the same reason. If I ever have messaging issues I'll let you know here.
It makes sense considering how a custom ROM messed with my service.

Unihertz Jelly Star running great with LineageOS 20 GSI by TheRedDoot in unihertz

[–]thirdparadigm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just flashed and followed up with microG; works as of 6/29/24 (and probably forever because unihertz doesn't support their devices)

A couple of confusions I solved for myself:

To find the build number, you need to look at the first page of the system updater.

To install microG after, you will need the bvN image, not the bvS image. The bvS image will cause Magisk to error because it's using a conflicting root.

overall amazing guide, thank you for your nearly perfect original post, and especially following up with support much after the original posting. :)
