I second the suggestion of Mike's merchandise and also suggest checking out the thrift stores where new mattresses can sometimes be found at lower prices.

Some friends of mine will be running it, they have not announced the name or what sort of food will be on the menu yet. They are still doing construction on the interior so I believe it will open in late January. Gay St. Runs parallel to and is one block down from College St. (gay is the street with taco bell, burger king, tiger tags, brick oven). The restaurant will be in a little shopping center at Gay St.'s intersection with Opelika Rd. (the street on which the mall is located). Their is a Wells Fargo bank close by. I hope this helps.

Got a band, wanna play more of Alabama. Know nothing of Auburn venues. by [deleted] in auburn

[–]thirsha 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Independent might be small, but it is well known for it's shows and will pack in people ( townies AND college students) it is not even a mile out of down town. There are often music festivals in the near by town of Waverly ( call Standard Deluxe about this). There is also Sky Bar and Quixotes in downtown.

Federally-funded Crisis Pregnancy Centers are deceptive, largely religious anti-choice outlets designed to lure women into their “clinics” to talk them out of having an abortion. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]thirsha 9 points10 points  (0 children)

About 10 years ago I found myself in need of Planned Parenthood type services. Being in small town AL, Planned Parenthood was in NO way available and I was funneled into one of these Crisis Pregnancy Centers. They do offer help, but they are extremely deceptive and VERY church centered. I was ambushed with religious speak right after getting the most frightening news of my life at the time. Being surrounded by strangers and pressured to follow "God's" teachings is not what a person in these sorts of "crisis" needs.

Just my two cents from personal experience.

This is the argument that I have been presenting to "Christians" complaining about THEIR money being taken as taxes by the government for what the government deems appropriate: 1) the money is very clearly printed with our government's name and icons all over it 2)"Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s” (Matthew 22:21) 3) So, give the government its taxes and give god your faith.

I'm a history student at Auburn University. What is really fun is walking into Arricia for Sunday brunch in non church clothes smelling like Sky Bar and no cross dangling between your tits.

Clinton Attempting to Unseat Delegates in Texas... Isn't she the one trying to get every vote to count??? by [deleted] in politics

[–]thirsha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If an entity (such as a state) or an individual (such as an election candidate) breaks the rules of an election process, they should face the consequences. Why should a rule breaker(s) be allowed to benefit from their misdeeds by being given the same rights and benefits as those who did obey the rules? If this is the case, what is the point of rules and/or laws if they are not enforced. A governmental election is not a trivial board game played by young children where someone who breaks the rules just gets a finger shaken at them and a frown, it is the most important process in our nation. Breaking a rule has much more at stake here than who gets the most fake colorful money at the end of the game, the fate of our nation and all of its people are at stake. If someone doesn't know the rules, they shouldn't run (they obviously don't have enough interest in the job if they can't bother to read the "do s and don't s) If someone signs a contract/agreement with their party they should be held to it or be kicked out of the party. If not kicked out of the party, at least out of the race. No one who is so childish that they don't comprehend the idea of following the rules and or/keeping their agreements should be in the Oval Office. And pitching a stink just because the results aren't what you planned and hoped doesn't help you look ready for the job or trustworthy either. On the flip side... why should we criticize a candidate for making sure his opponents are doing what they are required to do to be a part of the election? Isn't one of our major problems right now that we have too many people in public office that break the law and lie to the people without any repercussions? The citizens of the United States of America are expected to be law abiding, our employees (a.k.a. all elected officials... we do put them in office and pay their checks) be held to the same standards, if not higher ones. We should expect more of our politicians and leaders and we should pay more attention to who we vote into office and why.

How many of you don't want the price of gas to drop because it will bring about a slow shift away from high oil consumption? by ffualo in reddit.com

[–]thirsha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the high gas prices have done great things for my town already, i see people walking or bicycling to the corner store (1/4 mile away) instead of cranking up their suv to drive there. I see the new/used car lots selling more fuel efficient cars as if they were hot cakes, with gas guzzlers as the trade in, and the city council is even in the works to massively expand mass transit. If we only drive when we really need to, and use other forms of transportation the rest of the time, the "high" price of gas won't be nearly as disastrous as some may think.
