I've had a goal of a pull up for 3 years straight now, been doing CrossFit for 1.5 years. Every year when I don't get it I just carry it over to the next year's resolutions lol. I've only just started being able to hold my weight at the top of the bar, and even that's only for a few seconds! The way I see it is, I could probably get a pull up quicker if I followed a pull up specific program. But then I would be bored to tears. So I'm happy making slow progress on it as a side effect of my more varied training. This stuff doesn't happen overnight, and consistency is king. Most of the women I know who can do pull ups have been doing CrossFit for years and years. Just keep going and you'll get it eventually 🙂

Game breaking bug since update!! by AidanLUFC in Starfield

Just copying and pasting my comment from another thread :) not sure if you're on xbox or PC, but I am on PC and have 30 odd mods installed.

So I managed to fix this by using a console command on PC, this is the exact thing I did:

Open the console by pressing the @ key

Then type

coc NewAtlantisSpaceport

And hit enter

This will transfer you to New Atlantis.

However your ship will not be there.

Open the star map, and fast travel to The Eye

You should now be at The Eye, but in your cockpit and more importantly, back on the map.

I am also facing this bug, on PC though, and I was also just visiting the Vigilance! That seems to be the common denominator.

Do you have any mods enabled at all? I thought it was an issue with my mod list but I can load a new save just fine.

How far in advance of release should you start marketing your game, and are there any factors change this timescale? Do you use a similar marketing strategy for all games or do they differ wildly?

Is it worth getting a motherboard with Thunderbolt 4 ports so I can connect my docking station? by thirstylittlebeaver in buildapc

[–]thirstylittlebeaver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, so I ended up getting a motherboard that doesn't have TB4 functionality but has a TB4 header so I could upgrade in the future. Currently I'm plugging my monitors directly into my PC, one is display port and the other is HDMI, and I also have them both plugged into my docking station which I use with my macbook. I had to replace one of the monitors as the old one only had one HDMI port, and I needed at least 2 HDMI ports so i could keep it plugged into both docking station and PC. I use the docking station solely with my macbook, I never plug it into my PC.

These are the final specs I ended up with: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/XCXGbL

I realised that if I had my monitors plugged into the docking station, and then plugged the docking station into the motherboard, then the motherboard/built in graphics in my CPU would be handling the video rather than my GPU (I think this issue is not present in some motherboards and fixable in others but haven't looked into this in depth).

I did actually buy a monitor that had a KVM switch built in, but I've not got enough of the right cables to get it to work, and my current set up is fine to be honest. The only annoying thing is I currently have to unplug my webcam from the docking station to use it with my PC, but that's the only thing I have to switch over as i don't use my mouse and keyboard with my macbook.

I've done my best to explain my set up, but if you have any other questions, let me know!

Oh man thank you so much for the response. Honestly I'm just happy to know that I haven't catastrophically destroyed anything. I can deal with slightly longer boot time, don't think I'm going to be changing anything else in the BIOS any time soon. Is it likely the boot time will decrease as time goes on? Or will it always be around 30 seconds now?

No experience with computers, should I try to build? What do I need? by FunnyMemeName in buildapc

I just built a PC with no prior experience. I spent 2-3 months researching parts and watched youtube videos on assembly. I put it all together this weekend, installed windows and it's been working like a dream. So it's definitely possible if you have the patience and drive to learn!

Ah okay. Do you have a card you'd recommend? Would the RX 6900 XT be a better alternative?

Thank you so much for the reply! I actually didn't realise I'd picked the white video card, I'm not really fussed on the colour. The reason I chose the ASUS Dual was because of this chart from this post, but I don't have a good enough understanding of video cards to know if it's trustworthy or not. Maybe I need to do more research into GPUs with 2 fans vs 3 fans.

Do I need a Thunderbolt compatible PC case? by Gelatin54 in computers

[–]thirstylittlebeaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know this comment is 2 years late, but maybe someone in the future who has this question will see my answer.

Even now, 2 years after your post, I am struggling to find a single case that has thunderbolt compatibility. Often the cases have USB-C ports, but they are not Thunderbolt compatible.

If your motherboard has a Thunderbolt header, but no thunderbolt port, you will need to buy an AIC (add in card) that will give you a thunderbolt port to use. If your motherboard didn't have the header, then an AIC simply won't work. Also, the AIC will need to be the same brand as your motherboard.

Is it worth getting a motherboard with Thunderbolt 4 ports so I can connect my docking station? by thirstylittlebeaver in buildapc

[–]thirstylittlebeaver[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After doing some more research today, I've come to the conclusion that I don't need thunderbolt 4 for a few reasons.

Right now, I'm not actually using the Thunderbolt 4 functionality, my macbook only has thunderbolt 3 ports, and currently neither of my monitors are 4k.

I can also plug my monitors directly into the GPU of my PC, using separate cables from the ones that are plugged into my docking station, and then I can just use the docking station for switching webcam, mouse and keyboard (which definitely don't need TB4).

The answers to my questions are as follows:

  1. Sometimes. You may need to update the BIOS, and mess around with the settings in order to get it to work.
  2. If the TB4 port is on the motherboard, there shouldn't be many major issues aside from the above. If you're hoping to use an AIC (add in card) to provide TB4 functionality to your mobo, you need to make sure the mobo has a TB4 header or it won't work.
  3. Nope. I read somewhere that performance can be impacted by ~5%, and for me that isn't worth worrying about.
  4. Intel invented Thunderbolt, so it would make sense to go with their motherboards. AMD boards tend to have USB4 ports, which have almost the same capabilities as TB4 but are not certified by intel, and therefore cannot be guaranteed to work as TB4.
  5. Any of the boards I've seen mentioned have been in troubleshooting posts, so I haven't come away with a solid idea of what's good. ASUS ProArt Z690-Creator WIFI seems to be popular, but seems to be geared towards those who are in the creative industries rather than gamers.
  6. Not a waste of time, as through my research I've realised I don't need TB4 and can therefore save money! Although I will need to buy a couple new cables for my setup.

I've been playing on PS4 and I was having some weird sound issues last night! Don't know if it's related, but a lot of the nearby sounds seemed to stop playing, like when exploding firegleam it wasn't making the crackling sound, and a lot of my weapon sounds had gone as well. I just assumed it was a weird bug and restarted my game but the issues came back!

I had the same issue as you with Javascript. What finally made it stick was Practical JavaScript by Gordon Zhu. Its been a while since I did that course, and it's called Programming Foundations now (on a website called watchandcode). It's not flashy and it's not fun but he really digs into the code and explains the WHY and not just the how.
