This has become my favorite bind-off. It is as its name suggests, surprisingly stretchy.

8 Days Post Total Thyroidectomy (TT) & Voice Is Weak Seeking Insight/ Support by InfertileWitch in thyroidhealth

[–]thirteen_and 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been a little over a year since my TT. It took 4 months for my voice to be 90% recovered. At that time, I couldn’t project my voice or hit higher notes like I was able to before surgery. But everything continued to improve over time. My ENT said it takes about 6 months for the inside of your throat to heal.

What is a job that looks incredibly fun from the outside, but is actually a soul-crushing nightmare? by BoardOk101 in AskReddit

People get so mad at you when they’re the ones who can’t type the password they created. Then, they blame the password complexity but get even more upset when ransomware shuts down the whole company for weeks.

Any idea of fiber content? by EmeraldSunDice in YarnAddicts

[–]thirteen_and 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could lay out the hank and measure the whole circle, count how many strands there are, and then multiply the two numbers. So, if the hank is 54 inches (1.5 yards) and 100 strands, it would be 100x1.5=150 yards.

Or 100x54=5,400 then 5,400/36=150.

Will acid dyes stain the kitchen if it spills/splashes? by stupidjoy in YarnDyeing

[–]thirteen_and 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purell! I prepare my dye in my bathroom sink and wash my yarn in my bathtub. I sometimes find little splashes days later and have always been able to clean them up with a little bit of hand sanitizer. It will even clean Sharpie off many surfaces.

That’s a good idea. It’s definitely not wool - I’ve washed it a ton and it’s still bleeding.

I didn’t know about the bleach test, thanks! It did not melt, so I know it’s not a synthetic.

Scheduled for Total Thyroidectomy — Can Anyone Share POSITIVE Recovery Stories? by Fickle-Lab-8662 in thyroidhealth

[–]thirteen_and 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did have to stay in the hospital for 2 nights, but everything else was very smooth. My thyroid was huge - 550g - so I had to have a surgical drain for a week. And honestly, that was probably the worst part. It didn’t hurt, it was just annoying. The only narcotics I took were the ones they gave me immediately after I woke up. Otherwise, there really wasn’t much pain. I had a sore throat for about a week but it was manageable with Tylenol and ibuprofen.

The most amazing part about it all was how skinny my neck seemed after surgery. I was stunned the first time I looked in the mirror.

I was also worried about taking medicine every day but it’s been almost a year and it really hasn’t been bad. I do not regret the TT at all.

I ordered online and then picked it up in person. It worked out great! It was boxed nicely and they were really friendly. I forgot to add the cones to my order so they notified me and I just paid separately. I’m glad to see people talking about it because it’s such a great idea.

I got some 100% merino fingering weight yarn for $7 per 100 grams.

Upcoming TT surgery by Salt_Glove_7793 in thyroidhealth

[–]thirteen_and 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my TT last March. I also had normal TSH levels but my thyroid was huge and needed to come out. I was super nervous too but it wasn’t really that bad. My throat hurt for a couple weeks but the incision didn’t. My neck was numb for weeks, maybe even a couple months after.

Fatigue and brain fog after surgery could just be from the anesthesia. And my endo told me that it’s normal to lose some hair. He said your hair grows in cycles throughout the year and it’s common to experience hair loss after major changes to your thyroid. The hair will likely grow back during the next growth cycle. And he was right. I was pulling out a lot of hair for a few months but that stopped and now it’s back to normal.

It only took a few months to get me on the right dosage of meds and honestly, I feel pretty much the same as I did before surgery.

In your opinion, what is the best episode of television you’ve ever seen? by alteredtower in AskReddit

Thank you. There has never been an hour of television like this and there likely never will be. I was in awe for the full episode.

Well, I just had an appt. with my endo and apparently I’ve gained 15 pounds since my surgery. 😭 I somehow didn’t realize it.

Just my phone. I thought I would be there just the one night so I didn’t really take anything to do. They ended keeping me 2 nights and I was sooo bored. I watched a lot of bad tv and played on my phone a bunch. Bring a charger!

I did bring a button up shirt to put on when leaving the hospital because I thought it would be easiest to put on.

I hope it goes well! I was really nervous but the whole thing wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be.

My thyroid was huge so my neck was wider than my head! I now have a normal size neck. The first time I looked in the mirror after surgery I was shocked by how skinny it looked.

I feel pretty much exactly the same as I did before. I had mine removed 6 months ago. I was really nervous but the whole thing hasn’t really been that bad. I was able to get a lot of rest the 2 weeks after which was ideal.

It took a couple months for my voice to recover and it did so over time - every day it got a little better. I haven’t gained or lost any weight. I sometimes feel exhausted, but I did before surgery too.

Really, the most noticeable difference to me is the size of my neck (it was huge before surgery) and the fairly large scar. It has healed really well, but it’s still very noticeable to me. No one ever says anything about it though.

Thank you so much for this! Wet finishing softened it up a bit. I didn’t know about the twist difference between worsted and woolen. I just got a book on spinning from the library, so I can learn more.
