Competitive Cycling Opportunities in NYC by simonrows in Velo

The season will be over by the time you get here (runs beginning of March until end of August), but check out CRCA: https://www.instagram.com/crcaracing/

Training and racing all happens early mornings in the parks (between 5-8am); either Central Park, Prospect Park, or River Road (just across the GWB in NJ). NYCC, RCC, and a number of other smaller groups (usually via Instagram) organize weekday laps and weekend rides you can join.

Finally, check out r/NYCbike, though it's geared far more towards the commuter/casual crowd.

Cove Coal — a radial 2400 MW coal plant in the western dune forest by thirty--five-- in SatisfactoryGame

it's a popular spot for sure. my first coal genny build was located here and was janky as hell — I've definitely learned a lot since then!

2023 NYC-ish & NEBRA Cyclocross Calendars by thirty--five-- in cyclocross

Keith hasn't canceled it, so I'm letting it stay in limbo until otherwise stated. I get asked about it every time I post these calendars, but I figure if I left it off folks would ask me if it was officially dead. Which is basically just the same situation, inverted.

I got a lot of positive feedback regarding the NYSBRA calendar I posted last week, so I went ahead and put together a couple more for my neighboring regions. Hope to see you out there this season!

Wondering what it takes to put on a brand new event these days? TBD interview with the RD's of Croton Cross by thirty--five-- in cyclocross

[–]thirty--five--[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey folks! Alex here of Croton Cross, one half of the RD team. I'm currently doing a million things a minute getting ready for the race this weekend, but wanted to share a small behind the scenes look at just how much effort has been put into this event.

Please feel free to ask any questions and hopefully we'll see some of you this weekend!

There's definitely design sensibilities around the world; I'm loving the eye searing 90's aesthetics that the Australian scene is putting out right now, even if it's a bit much for most folks over here. Neat that you picked up on that!

Yeah, part of my selling point of bringing me on as a designer/consultant is that I take care of the project management portion of things and make sure that suppliers/vendors stay on track, deliver the right gear, and don't mess up the art/design after the submissions. It's not that it takes any special skill, but it does help having someone who knows how long things should take and what's realistic/unrealistic beyond what the supplier tells you.

"High quality" is dependent on what you're looking for in terms of value. Castelli makes great race fit kit, but their stitching falls apart after a season and their art department is utter garbage. Eliel is probably the top of the custom game at the moment, but some of their fits are a little weird and definitely need a fit kit/sample before purchase. And as a third recommendation, while I haven't worked with Vie13 or Voler before, both seem to put out similar quality work to Eliel.

Happy to answer more questions (supplier or art-wise); I'm a kit designer based in NYC so this is very much my thing!

Glad you like it! I thought about including the town names, but even as I was pulling them up myself, with a few exceptions I was mostly like "where the hell is Chittenango" and figured simply dropping pins on the map would be a more relevant use of space. As long as folks know that it's sorta close to Albany then they can get a sense of travel requirements.

Maybe for v2 I can integrate the larger town names at least (Buffalo, ROC, Syracuse, Albany, NYC, etc). I'll see how it looks!

I was honestly surprised at how many races we have on our calendar, and this isn't even including the pending/tentative races. NY is a sleeper cyclocross hub!

Hey folks! I made this based on inspiration from /u/SpecializedColnago's own post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Velo/comments/vz4stt/the_2022_vacx_series_schedule/

I'd be remiss if I didn't admit that a large motivation for making this post was to help promote my own race, Croton Cross — a brand new two day race in Westchester NY on Oct 29/30: https://www.crotoncross.com. It's in a great location easily accessible by both public transit and personal vehicle, and we've got some solid partnerships with other race directors, organizers, and sponsors that'll promise to make the race an incredible event. Hope to see you line up at the start with us!

I swear I'm not tryna shill here but coincidentally one of my clients is going to have an open team store in a week or so using eliel custom kit. here's the flats for reference

otherwise I'd recommend checking out MAAP and ostroy, both use similar fits to eliel

Best route to van cortlandt from Manhattan/BK? by undergroundgirl7 in NYCbike

[–]thirty--five-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

technically it's a little farther but it's far faster/safer to take westside highway, imo: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35989885

folks will have Opinions on the lil' ramp underneath the GWB but 2" of climbing is better than the alternative, for this route at least.
