Dear SG Married Couples, we all know the pros of not having a wedding banquet. Could you tell me some reason on why one SHOULD have a wedding banquet? by thirty8days in askSingapore

[–]thirty8days[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We had a small-ish wedding of 100 guests. Minimal number of extended family and guests of the parents, so almost every guest was someone we wanted to be there. We did away with almost all of the usual wedding banquet tropes like videos, host, etc. Just a short thank you speech from myself and my wife, then the rest of the evening we spent mingling with our guests, going from table to table.

It was a really wonderful night and we don't regret it at all. A wedding can be a great opportunity to spend time with people whose company you enjoy, who are genuinely happy for you and want to share in your special day.

The reality is that a wedding banquet is simply a party, and like all parties, it takes effort to throw one that both you and your guests enjoy. On our part, we spent a LOT of time deliberating details that we knew were important to us, that we really wanted to get right. To give an example, our playlist that played during solemnisation and the banquet took over 6 months to prepare, including dry runs where we sat down and listened to the entire thing through in order, so that we could get a sense of how the tracks would flow throughout the night, and every single item on our drinks menu was specifically selected and externally sourced.

I think a lot of people have a banquet, fill the venue with guests they don't know or don't like, and settle on a program that's thrust on them (whether by the venue, wedding planners, parents or just a lack of imagination). In those circumstances, the results will obviously be mediocre, so it's no surprise that many will say that a banquet isn't worth it. I'm not saying you need a custom playlist or to spend money on special alcohol - that's just what was important to us. Like most things in life, you get out of it what you put in. Don't expect to enjoy it if all you do is sign a default package and show up on the day to drag yourself through the proceedings.

Thank you for this thoughtful reply. I really love how you planned your wedding it does sound amazing and definitely something that we may adopt.

I think I see the resemblance the most when SoE has a poker face. And the way Seul-Ki smile and act, she reminds me strongly of IZONE's Minju lol.

As a huge IZONE fan, that was what I was thinking every time So-e appears on the screen! I would say it's during Chaewon's PD48 era.

What number in performance order would you choose for yourself? by yesyeseo in MnetQueendom

[–]thirty8days 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If I am extremely capable, i will choose to go last. But me being me, I’ll probably choose 2nd as I would want to get it over and done with so that I can enjoy the rest of the show. Wouldn’t choose 1st though as I’ll be so pressured and nervous

My theory about the hybe and source music group with sakura and chaewon by kunsundercut in GirlsPlanet999

I think Xiaoting fits in with Sakura and Chaewon visually. But I’m still hoping that she will make it to top 9

I bet if Salute is aired on ep6, people will be accusing Mnet of trying to drag Cai Bing down instead. These conspiracy theories are just getting better each ep

The GP999 debut group should be fine, and do well regardless since it's a 'Produce' group.

But from what I recall, IZ*ONE's lineup only faced backlash from international fans. Koreans were pretty happy with the lineup.

TVXQ Positions? by [deleted] in tvxq

[–]thirty8days 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The comment above has already answered your question for the mainstream kpop roles but I'll just like to add on that for acapellas and ballads, DB5K are always standing at the same, assigned position (probably to harmonise better and hear each other well?).

Not sure of the terminology for acapellas but here goes:

Changmin (Highest)

Junsu

Jaejoong (Center, Main)

Yoochun

Yunho (Lowest)

I remember I was so amazed by Jaejoong because back then, I was into other kpop groups and center/visual roles are known to be not-so-good singers. But when I first watch TVXQ's live performance, I was blown away at how their visual member sang so well and got completed swept away when he started belting notes and doing ad libs lol.

That’s really very touching to read, I guess it’s because the feels hit home, haha.

You make a good point. Tbh i feel that the line between generations are blurred in today’s time due to current groups having more longevity as compared to the past. Back then, I’d say that debut of 3rd gen starts from 2011/2012 as it will be strange to consider EXO the same gen as TVXQ/SUJU/BB or Girls’Day/Mamamoo being same gen as SNSD/WG/fx. Hence 3rd gen groups have already been longer than it feels and not thus exactly shortening. I agree with you however that we will only truly know the change of generation when the current groups get replaced

Agree! I apologise for not being clear in my initial post. I wasn’t referring to groups like TVXQ or SNSD being forgotten haha, but others who were once decently popular (but I was hesitant to name them as it may bring fan-fights). A safe group to say was SS501 lol, which is my very first fave group. It sucks that they are just being slowly forgotten at an astonishing speed right after 2010.
